Despite being indebted to the stroppy sound of tango, Gotan Project's first album, "La Revancha del Tango" (Revenge of the Tango), had no problem making friends. It cropped up on the last episode of 'Sex and the City' and in an advert for UPS and sold more than 1m copies. If that ubiquity came at a price, perhaps it was passion. In a hybrid of chill-out electronics and tango, something had to give.
"Lunatico" is a good follow-up, in that it pushes a more organic line, with live drumming and percussion.
"Almor Porteño" is one of the highlights of the acoustic approach: Calexico's John Convertino is so lazy and sultry on drums, it's a miracle he makes it to the end of the song on the same day as the others. And the bandoneon and ... Read More:

Very plainly put, it's just DIFFERENT than the "old Coldplay", and has quite a new "mix" of sounds and implementations, including Chris Martin's vocal range. I've listened to it twice thus far and think it "grows on ya" and because it has varied sounds, the more you listen to it, the more you could "sorta get into it". I think it's a bit "limited" though, in some sense (as in, when/where you would want to listen to it), whereas before it was ALWAYS good listening to Coldplay. Another point for me is that I don't want to have to "work so hard" at "trying to listen to" any band, just to find it's saving graces (which does NOT mean I'm a non-appreciator of music, since I AM a musician and lyricist personally). Toumani Diabaté comes from a long line of Malian kora players, the kora being a 21-string harp crafted from a halved calabash gourd and cow skin, with nylon strings. This is only his second solo album from a large discography - the first one was in 1988. He has however recorded duet albums, like the lyrical New Ancient Strings with another talented kora player Ballake Cissoko and more recently a gently mesmerising In The Heart of The Moon, with the late Ali Farka Toure. He then assembled the enormous Symmetric Orchestra to record Boulevard de L'independence, a funky but somewhat noisy dance extravaganza where his usual subtlety was set aside.

I don't understand why the editors needed to cut the best songs from the show. I also don't understand why the felt the need to change the camera angle EVERY FIVE SECONDS. This makes for a decent cd, watching the video is hazardous to your brain. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.

This album is really great, it exceeded my expectations. Bittersweet is just such a genius band. I've been fan of them since their first album. This album is a must have!

Listening to Bocelli sing great songs previously performed by other great singers was a pleasurable addition to a wonderful musical concert. There is no need to compare his performance with others, it's simply a different experience of great ageless songs like: can't help falling in love, September Morn, Somos Novios,.....
The most pleasant surprise to me, was hearing Bocelli sing Les Feuilles Mortes in French; one of my favorite childhood songs. I just wish that the great voice who accompanied him was at least credited on the cover.

All in all, a great concert that is worth replaying and treasuring on cold Friday nights.

Marcin Wasilewski belongs to the best of contemporary European Jazz. There exists a very lively and highly inspirated jazz-scene in Poland since a couple of years. The style of music Marcin Wasilewski performs with his trio, is a very special kind of impressionistic, esthetic Jazz, full of well-done harmonizations. The pieces of music "breath", as one could say. Virtuosity lets the music go, instead of opressing it. Espesially remarkable are, as so often, the compositions of Wasilewski himself like "The First Touch", "The Cat", the title piece of music "January" and "The Young and Cinema". I have grown into quite the Leonard Cohen fan, but this particular CD goes to the bottom of the growing pile of my Cohen collection. I can't even remember why, just that I wasn't interested in listening to it again, unlike all of his others, which I play over and over, seemingly never tiring of them.
