Animal behaviorists have done some studies showing harp music is good at calming animals, especially cats. My cat was very skittish and unhappy as a result of very loud construction work next door and all other efforts to calm her down had not been totally successful. I got this and she (and I, if you must know) relaxed immediately.
It is a beautiful sounding album. (And the bahaviorists have a point. Cats do seem to hear vibes in harp music we can't. It was like instant prozac for her.)

This collection from the early years of Manuel Barrueco is one of the best values you'll find. It's 3 discs long and contains some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard. I've owned this set once before and had to buy it again because my original CDs were worn out from ware and tear. Highly recommended for anyone starting a serious classical guitar collection.

A friend of mine got this for her son about 3 years ago and he's still listening to the stories. Its calming and interesting. Its great in the car. The story goes along with the movements of the piece and really brings classical music and a great story to children. I now get this for all my friends with babies and small children.

I play this for my son when he is going to sleep and it is enjoyable for both of us. A few of the songs are a little "off" the purely soothing edge, but it's still very nice.

After years of searching for my favorite version of the Horn concertos I found this one thanks to the recommendation of the penguin guide (they're good for some things y'know).
I've heard about a dozen versions and never settled on any of them (even the Brain and the other Tuckwell's).
This version should be the best example to Tuckwell's art. He brings out the depth and range of the instrument while staying commited to beauty and life.
The recording actually sounds like a live recording or like they didn't talk about anything at all...just went in there like geniuses and taped them down in one session!
Tuckwell and Marriner are truly insipred in this recording. Tuckwell is daring, strong, ... Read More:

Discussed by phone a problem with trying to order this product from Hastings, which was entirely dissatisfactory.
My only suggestsion is that you make your toll free number more accessible.
The item turned out to be on sale,so I got it for much less expensive than I would have. It was a replacement, since I lost my original copy bought in 2004, and I treasure it for sentimental reasons besides loving the music, so I was very impressed with ordering it, and did so immediately after talking with your agent. He even credited my account $5.00 for my experience with Hastings, and said he took notes.
Ultimately Hastings did credit my return of their sending me the wrong product, I have to say, in a timely matter, so that ... Read More:

I'm an early music fan. I also love the work of John Dowland, have lived in Denmark, and visited the castle of King Christian IV where Dowland spent an unhappy time. I resisted having anything to do with this DVD/CD at first, until the PBS presentation that showed Sting at his castle in the U.K. with the amazing lute player. Now I tell all my early-music friends that, yes, the CD is good, but the DVD is better! It's not what we've been used to hearing, but it's an interesting and world-view-expanding experience to see and hear what Sting has done. Now, I'm buying it for all my friends who are Sting fans who would never listen to early music!

I have most of these pieces on a book of Essential Classical Guitar, as I'm picking up the instrument again. This is not only an enlightnening CD, it's just great music, very well played. I can compare some of the pieces to other recordings in compilations, also very well played. But Julian Bream breathes, does not put the accent on virtuosity but more on musical phrasing, takes a slightly slower tempo sometimes (the lovely Bach prelude in d). I love playing it on my iPod in the background, it soothes me while I'm doing mechanical work. All the CD is worth it, esp. at this price. I would've paid full price for it. Unlike other reviewers, I'm not at all bothered by the recording quality, it's perfectly adequate; although there is no attempt to dissimulate ... Read More:
