How cool is that? The champion of the 2008 USA Olympic Team, gold medal winning gymnast Nastia Liukin used this CD, the song 'Variations on Dark Eyes,' as her floor routine music. Arranged by the pianist on this recording, Ilan Rechtman. Fabulous!

This is a nice, easy way to wake up in the morning. Don't get it if you need high energy--this isn't it! But if you're having a morning where you just want to sit and linger a bit, this is great.
All those famous pianists nowadays must listen to these incredibly sublime recordings of Beethoven concetos played by Leon Fleisher, and better re-think what it means to play music.
The lavinshing richness of the tones he produces is beyond description not to mention the technical brilliance. The slow movement of Emperor Concerto, for example, has almost other-worldly beauty, and you forget everything else. Since I came to know this pianist through the stunning Brahms Concerti recording, I've been struck again and again by his amazing ability to breathe life into music. With these Beethoven recordings, one gets a feeling that pianist is completely lost in the music. In that sense Fleisher is a truly self-effacing musician. (Sviatoslav ... Read More:

This is a pleasant CD and would be a worthy addition to your collection. I also bought Thursday Afternoon, and think that it is even better. Sometimes this CD is just the right thing. Recommended.

For Mr. Get Real[your nom-de-plume and your review is an oxymoron!] - what a lot of pretentious, overblown nonsense. I bet you were bullied at school! It's about the music, the interpretation, the feeling - not +/- decibels etc etc. Your review did nothing for casual classical music listeners.
To anyone else with ears either side of their head - listen to the cd and enjoy it for what it is!

Leon Fleisher Plays BrahmsThe 1957, '58, or '62 recording of Leon Fleisher performing with George Szell and the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra is one of the most beautiful renditions of Brahms' 2nd concerto for piano and orchestra. Every group of muscians does things slightly different, and I have collected a few----. This recording was made before the tragic loss of function of a Fleisher's right (I think) hand. Recorded mono, and remastered in 1997--a wonderful listen. Fleisher's one hand recordings, and the newer ones since he has recovered the use of the hand. He is a specially great artist.

Some people believe this is one of the greatest pop albums of the 70's, and who am I to argue? Not only because I can't argue, but because I love the music on here, a LOT. Pop writing perfection. Every vocal melody, every instrumental bit. Exceptionally solid songwriting. Brian Eno had something good going here, and this album deserves to be remembered for all the great vocal melodies.

There are nineteen concertos in this collection, twelve of which are for one or more harpsichords. The remaining seven are concertos for various other instruments including violin, oboe, etc. A potential buyer should be aware that many of Bach's harpsichord concertos are re-arranged versions of these other concertos - and in some cases both versions are in this collection. For example, the three violin concertos (including the "double" concerto) are presented in both their original and harpsichord arrangements. Two oboe concertos, whose original versions have been lost, are reconstructed from harpsichord concertos that Bach arranged from those originals. Both the reconstructed oboe and harpsichord versions are in this set. So the listener should not be surprised to hear the ... Read More:

I heard nothing but wonderful things about this recording, and when I finally gave in and bought the CD, I have never been more let down. Both of these concerti are favorites of mine, and I have studied the scores for both quite intimately. I also have numerous recordings of these works, but none fall as short as this one. It is definitely at the bottom of the pile.
The only thing that sets this recording apart from all other Rach 3's out there is the speed. I will give Argerich this much: she has a lot of balls to play this monster at that break-neck speed, but she just doesn't have the hands. The only recording I can find that is faster than this is Rachmaninoff's own version of it, and he had mammoth hands that could handle his unbelievable tempi.

No fan of Richter should be without this disc. His interpretation of the two piano concerti ranks among not only the best but also among the highly out of the ordinary ones.
