You know that pivotal scene in "Garden State" where Natalie Portman's character shows Zach Braff's character a song by The Shins? She says, "You gotta hear this one song, it'll change your life I swear," and it literally does set into motion a chain of events that changes his life completely. That is exactly how I feel about The Postal Service's Give Up, an album that changed my life and my perception of what good music is, and what it could be.
If you've read my musings before, you're undoubtedly aware of the story of how I first heard this album. Driving with a friend during Spring Break 2004 (whoo!), he puts in this CD and begins plaing "Nothing Better." Jimmy Tamborello's bellish synth sound reminds me of when Mario collects a coin, ... Solid Rock album my dad loves it for his brithday. He told me every track rocks and nothing short of a mind blowing perfect album by a solid rock band. His view and mine this was the bands best album.

Radiohead-Hail To The Thief ****
What strikes me about Hail To The Thief is that it is Radioheads boldest statement, and yet probably the bands all around weakest album. Where as every other album the band released would grow in a new direction, Hail just simply reverted back to Kid A and really only slowed it down. You find basically the same themes through here as you did there as well. So why is this so bold? Well we always expect Radiohead to go somewhere new and they deliberately didn't. But what is this albums greatest merritt is also it's downfall. There is nothing new here which feels like we have already heard this album before. Though at the same time, In Rainbows only took everything the band ever did and put it all on one album, ... Read More:

I loved their first two records and I've gone to one of their shows (they were awesome), so I made sure to give this record a long time to warm up on me. Of course, I loved the single, I had very high hopes for this record. I didn't like it so much when I first listened through the record, but I thought that I would grow to love it over time. I've listened through it several times since then, and I still can't see why this would be considered a better record than Oh, Inverted World or Chutes Too Narrow. When compared to a lot of other bands out there, Wincing... is far better than anything most current bands have ever done. Of course, they have to let their music evolve over time, I wasn't expecting Wincing... to sound exactly like their previous work. Every ... Read More:

It's good to hear some more music from the early 90's that was able to escape grunge's tentacles. There are a few elements in there that make it comparable to that genre, but it's really closer to alternative rock that got more popular later on. I feel like the album might be a little longer than it needs to, and some of the songs are a little similar, but nothing in particular felt like it needed to be changed or cut. A lot of the songs sounded similar to stuff that came out later, which points to it being pretty influential to modern rock. A song like "Today" for example, sounds like something I've heard fifty times before, but might be the first time it was made. Sort of like Nevermind, I respect it more than I liked it, but I did like it it more than that.

Mariella and Nicest Thing are my two favorite songs. I really like this CD. Her lyrics are funny and cute and the tune is hum-worthy. Defiantly worth the buy.

Simply one of the best CD's I've ever owned. Just a delight from start to finish, Feist's vocals are gorgeous without being sing songy. This album remains in a very small list of my all time favorite albums. Great songwriting and lovely melodies. Just perfect!!

I'm relatively new to The Stills and I heard this album before the other two. Since I haven't spun Logic yet, maybe that's why I can genuinely appreciate this album in a vacuum. Well, I am currently listening to WF and I like WF too. But Oceans is much catchier, I can hear hints of bands such as Dredg and even AFI and Funeral For A Friend, which is fine with me. Tim and Dave's voices are both nice, it's hard to tell the difference most of the time.
It reminds me of the situation that Funeral For A Friend went through. They changed their style completely on their current album Tales, and although it's a decent album, compared to their previous work, it's easy to see why it got trashed.

So, about a year ago, I bought a Zune for when I work out, and quickly realized that the 15 gigs I downloaded off my CDs were all bands from the 70's or early 80's and the music they're still doing; a very little bit of rap, but nothing from the last 2 decades. So I had heard White Stripes on the radio, and bought Icky Stomp, and that led me to buying the rest of White Stripes cd's, most of which are great, So when I saw that Jack White is past of Raconteurs, I bought them and really like this album a lot.
The punchline is that I was shopping in Safeway, and they were playing White Stripes on the sound system there. So much for being hip! But, what the heck---I do like th music, and I enjoy it.
