i remember seeing this when it first came out .the MTV unplugged series was definitely an armature show till natalie and the maniacs appeared and i never even heard of them the track- because the night became an instant hit you can still hear it on radios stations almost daily (my other favorite was -like the weather )all the tracks were great and the band and natalie were on point this show put the unplugged series on the map and set the standards high it was also visually pleasing to watch but they didnt put it on DVD my other favorite was the nirvana episode no DVD either

I don't normally add a review when there is already four reviews but when I was trying to decide whether or not to but this album those four reviews didn't really help. Every review so far either claims it's album of the year or a horrible mess. Rolling Stone magazine said it was an album "To Buy Now." I'm not a slave to Rolling Stone magazine but sometimes they get it right (like they did with Nada Surf's Let Go). So I was set on a task of researching this album and I found it hard to find the truth mixed in these reviews. The truth is it's a good album. It's a strong first outting which is hard to do with a double album. The most comprable artist I can relate Benji Hughes to is the Magnetic Fields. It's somewhat of a stretch but he also reiminds ... I just bought this reissues LP this weekend! and having seen only one review of the vinyl reprint i thought i would add my 2 cents. 1st the packaging is great these LP make CDs look boring, nice gate fold and you can see all the art work that is so small it the cd booklet and now it is huge and awesome. 2ed the sound That is my we are buying all this s@#t again right! Sounds great the highs are higher and the lowers are lower just like my life j/k! 3ed it is just a cool thing the have and revisit. I think the whole ritual of putting the record on sitting down and listening to the recording instead of driving or washing dishes or working out or what ever. Final Straw

That is how I describe a band that I stumble upon (thank you Grey's Anatomy) and fall in love with. Snow Patrol hit my radar while I was starting to lose faith in the music industry in finding new, exciting and unique bands. I can't tell you the last time I'd found a new band to be excited about (this was in 2006)...Snow Patrol renewed my faith in music and unique, modern, worthy bands.

I bought Eyes Wide Open first and loved it so much that a month later I bought Final Straw. While this CD is not as good as Eyes Open, it's still a pretty damn good CD! I think in this CD they may have sort of been honing their skills and finding their nitch, style. But with a talented lead singer and musicians, and great songs...you can't go wrong. ... Read More:

This album must be listened to in effort to see the musicality and artistry, and without comparison to the Beach Boy's discography. The album brings amazing harmonies and a more mature sound, presented in an artistic format.

The musicians have fun with this album! It does what it says it will do... makes you smile!

I still remember when this cd first came out, back in 1996 (around that time). This cd captures some of the best music in the 90's. So take a trip down memory lane and enjoy this.

Fiona's subsequent cds are also good. She is very talented vocally and with the piano.

God this woman can sing...she has one of the most beautiful voices in music today and unlike some other singers (Feist, Jenny Lewis) she actually has the ability to project real pain, sorrow, hope, emotion through her voice.
Chan Marshall is not a blues singer but boy can she sing the blues.

Even though this is an album primarily of covers it feels like a Cat Power album though and through.

Rambling Woman, Silver Stallion and Blue are all stone cold classic covers. They all sound completely different in style and mood but are all memorable.

I listen to this album every couple of days because it puts me in a good space.

Being one of my favorite bands, but reserved at the fact that half of the principal band was not returning, I was hesitant at embracing the "return" of the Smashing Pumpkins. Zeitgeist had it's moments, but is, for the most part, in the lower regions of my Pumpkins favorites list. I just picked up the import of American Gothic though, and I'm pleasantly surprised. Besides being mainly the stripped down tender Pumpkins stuff that I've always favored, it's more genuine and heartfelt than the bulk of the album it was omited from.

I was introduced to NPs by someone who was way more into indie music than me, but since I was way more into her than she was into me, I tried hard to like them, but I just couldn't stand most of their earlier work. Now, a couple of years later, Challengers falls into my lap, and I can't get enough of it.

That's not true. I can't stand what I consider the more manic stuff on here, like Myriad Harbour, All The Things, Entering White Cecilia, and Mutiny. They scream at me as I rush to turn the sound down.

However...
