As far as lo-fi goes, this took the sub-genre in a whole new direction. Not for everyone, and you'll be hard-pressed to find hit single potential in any of these early 90's noise pop-rock confections, but the lyrics are strong, with a strong Anne Frank theme throughout. If you enjoy this kind of music, you will fall in love with this album. It's as simple as that!

This CD is one of the most poetic and lovely I've heard in ages. Not only are the humorous lyrics cutting (no pun intended) but even the words on the darkest cut, "The Horror of Our Love" flow and bite and weave with the music to create images that are both beautiful and ghastly at the same time. My favorite cut is "Lake Ponchartrain", a chilling, ghostly story of what happens if you dine on the wrong food on a stormy night. But it is tucked away so cleverly in the rhythms of the music that you need to pay attention. That is no difficult feat with the clear diction of Ludo's lead singer Andrew Volpe. Nothing feels better then playing a new album and being instantly gratified by what comes out of the speakers; especially when the listener has not a clue about what he is going to hear.

This was my experience with Visiter. The opening tract, Walking, starts off innocently enough, with a melodic picking progression, but the second I heard that raw open pluck five seconds into the track I was hooked...and even more-so when the banjo came in. The album moves onto a great second track, Red and Purple and everything seems to build nicely off itself.

my only gripe is that by about the 8th track I no longer want to listen to the album. It suffers slightly from repetitiveness - all forgivable though. it is a great album.

American Gothic

Being one of my favorite bands, but reserved at the fact that half of the principal band was not returning, I was hesitant at embracing the "return" of the Smashing Pumpkins. Zeitgeist had it's moments, but is, for the most part, in the lower regions of my Pumpkins favorites list. I just picked up the import of American Gothic though, and I'm pleasantly surprised. Besides being mainly the stripped down tender Pumpkins stuff that I've always favored, it's more genuine and heartfelt than the bulk of the album it was omited from.

Final Straw

That is how I describe a band that I stumble upon (thank you Grey's Anatomy) and fall in love with. Snow Patrol hit my radar while I was starting to lose faith in the music industry in finding new, exciting and unique bands. I can't tell you the last time I'd found a new band to be excited about (this was in 2006)...Snow Patrol renewed my faith in music and unique, modern, worthy bands.

I bought Eyes Wide Open first and loved it so much that a month later I bought Final Straw. While this CD is not as good as Eyes Open, it's still a pretty damn good CD! I think in this CD they may have sort of been honing their skills and finding their nitch, style. But with a talented lead singer and musicians, and great songs...you can't go wrong. I think in ... I still remember when this cd first came out, back in 1996 (around that time). This cd captures some of the best music in the 90's. So take a trip down memory lane and enjoy this.

Fiona's subsequent cds are also good. She is very talented vocally and with the piano.

The 80's feel and overtones on this album come mainly from the vocals, which is just an observation and not a negative, a style of sound but not a replication. I find that much of the musical sound is much more on the 'newer' side, with well-written, well-sung, well-played, and thoughtful songs that are quite good overall. It's an excellent album, but not a superb one (the superb ranks are very few), good enough to put in your player and just let it run through... because all of the songs are good to my ears, some great, which makes it worth owning because so many albums put out these days have only but 2-3 good, or great (or just one!), songs at best and the rest just seem to totally suck. I just bought this reissues LP this weekend! and having seen only one review of the vinyl reprint i thought i would add my 2 cents. 1st the packaging is great these LP make CDs look boring, nice gate fold and you can see all the art work that is so small it the cd booklet and now it is huge and awesome. 2ed the sound That is my we are buying all this s@#t again right! Sounds great the highs are higher and the lowers are lower just like my life j/k! 3ed it is just a cool thing the have and revisit. I think the whole ritual of putting the record on sitting down and listening to the recording instead of driving or washing dishes or working out or what ever. So in summation i would give the music 5 stars the vinyl 4 stars so there you have it!

This is the story of Jackie and Meg, who made some type of deal with the prince of something or other to become famous. The result? Throngs of mind-controlled & brain washed youth--who collectively could not distinguish Mozart from the sound of cats having sex, are programmed to love this "music." These robots, along with the Tavistock Institute's favorite brain-washing mechanism--MTV, make Jackie and Meg famous. Their nails-on-a-chalkboard sound is typically wrapped in a very interesting CD cover. Such is the case for "Get Behind Me Satan," which is nothing more than a tribute to their master. This is nothing more than The Partridge Family on 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine.
