This is a great CD... I pop it in the CD player whenever I want to feel happy. The Kooks have a sound that is a mix of the Beatles, the Killers, and Sublime. Sounds like an unusual mix, but when it's all rolled together, it sounds awesome!

I've been a Beck fan since Mellow Gold came out. And I'm probably one of the few Beck fans that thinks Mellow Gold was not one of his better albums (aside from maybe 5 songs on it.) I loved Odelay (who didn't?) and I dug a lot of his work on Mutations and The Information...but in my opinion this is his most complete album out of them all. Odelay is close but even it had a little filler injected in it. I bought this CD in 05' right after it was released (2nd day in fact) and I still love it now as much as I did the first time I heard it. It still gets regular play in my CD player and hasn't grown old on me at all. It starts off great with E-Pro and just keeps going like a runaway train. Been desperately shopping around for new music for quite a while, since I got a new car, and needed to update the music I housed in there. This album is perfect. Heard them on Pandora Radio as a recommendation for people who like Placebo and the Smashing Pumpkins. And so it is. Bought it immediately as my first Amazon digital download, because I couldn't wait to run out to the store and buy the physical copy. So now all I need to do is buy a blank cd to burn it on, and bring it along with me on all my drives. Hurrah for finding great new music.

I should preface this review by stating I'm a loyal fan who has attended several live performances and regard Xavier Rudd as one of my most followed artists. However, this album is very different from previous releases. It is dark, loud, and in my opinion cluttered.
Xavier Rudd commented recently: "We captured what we do live, the thickness of it, the tone. I think we finally achieved what I've always wanted to hear on my recordings." One must respect the artist's thoughts regarding his own work, and to some point, it's quite interesting to know that he regards this as his live sound captured in a studio album. i don't agree w/ the reviewer who says Los Angelas is a letdown after Reset. i think it's a very nice progression. both are unique and superb and some of the most interesting and exciting electronic music being made today. highest recommendation.

I liked both of the Kills earlier albums -- KEEP ON YOUR MEAN SIDE and NO WOW -- but didn't think that they were so excellent that I needed another one. Lord, was I ever wrong. MIDNIGHT BLOOM is not merely a huge leap forward, but is one of the best rock albums of 2008. While the first two albums were excellent in every way, there was a bit of monotonous sameness that crept in as you listened to them in their entirety. They were best listened to in hunks, not wholes. MIDNIGHT BLOOM is diversely textured from beginning to end, with far more nuance to the arrangements and a wonderful diversity to the songs, without losing any of their hard edge.

I just bought this reissues LP this weekend! and having seen only one review of the vinyl reprint i thought i would add my 2 cents. 1st the packaging is great these LP make CDs look boring, nice gate fold and you can see all the art work that is so small it the cd booklet and now it is huge and awesome. 2ed the sound That is my we are buying all this s@#t again right! Sounds great the highs are higher and the lowers are lower just like my life j/k! 3ed it is just a cool thing the have and revisit. I think the whole ritual of putting the record on sitting down and listening to the recording instead of driving or washing dishes or working out or what ever. So in summation i would give the music 5 stars the vinyl 4 stars so there you have it!

Pinkerton brims with catchy pop hooks and melodies, yet manages to go beneath the surface of the band's power pop façade and expose all the feelings and desires of a self-isolated nerd/rockstar.
