CHANT arrived in good condition ahead of the promised delivery date and for a bargain price. The singing is well done. However, I never recognized one selection of the ultra long list of chants that are a radical departure from Kyrie Eleison and Magnificat anima mea. I played it while in bed and drifted off to sleep even after being kinda disappointed in the selections. This is not saying YOU won't be transfixed and inspired by the rhythm, melodies, and selections chosen by the totally-dedicated monks.

This is my second Andre Rieu CD and I really enjoy both of them. They are peppy and energetic. You can tell he has a lot of fun directing the orchestra and they enjoy playing together.

This was one of the very first classical music CDs that I ever purchased. I was somewhat familiar with Beethoven's 5th, but not the 7th. Needless to say, I have acquired many more CDs since then. For Beethoven, I feel that I can never have too many recordings of his symphonies. I own the Zinman/Tonhalle set, the Krips/LSO set, Karajan EMI/Philharmonia set, Gardiner/ORR set, and the Cluytens/Berlin Phil. set. Of individual recordings of 5 and 7, I have this along with Reiner and the CSO, and Haitink with the LSO of 5/1 (LSO Live).

With all these recordings, what makes this one stand out? For me, its Kleiber's ability to let Beethoven speak for himself. Kleiber's interpretations are masterful in the way that they don't necessarily ... Read More:

This is a great product. The kids love it. Some reviews have mentioned that the lead vocalist is not very melodic. However, I see this as a plus. He has a zany way of cracking his voice which is a hilarious complement to the other opera-class voices on the CD.
My kids seem to love the instrumental-only versions now that they associate these with the vocal versions.

Libera continues to put out great music. Though the music is basically the same type of music as their other CD's. This CD has a slightly different feel to it in my opinion. Their music is part ethereal and part just plain fun. They sound like they enjoy singing together and being part of Libera. It would be great to be able to see them live in concert to see that joy and enthusiasm that they put into their singing on the CD's. Anyone who is a fan of boy treble singers and boy's choirs should buy this CD.

Olivier Messiaen: Quartet for the End of Time

Not long ago, I listened to Olivier Messiaen's *Quartet for the End of Time* for the first time. I did not know what to make of it when it started, but by the time it ended it had made a deep impression. Since then I have listened to it several times more. Without the description provided by Messiaen, I wonder how many listeners would have guessed what the quartet was all about, or called it one of the greatest works of the twentieth century. I can't prove it, but possibly critics would have called it an interesting experiment. Yet the music taken together with its explanation (including the circumstances under which it was composed) communicates a compelling vision.
