This 2nd synth album follows the pattern of Low, the first one in the Eno trilogy, in its mix of short pop/rock songs plus moody instrumentals and semi-instrumentals. Somehow it lacks the trenchant edge of Low although the title track is truly spectacular in its powerful imagery and stirring melody - his voice sounds as human as on Word On A Wing (from Station to Station) over the wailing drone of the synths as it paints a scenario of lovers meeting beneath the Berlin wall. Truly breathtaking, this song was also released as a single in German and French versions in the 1970s. Whether the Police had intentions of saving rock and roll in the late 70's, being a revolutionary new punk band, or just liked the idea of mixing reggae with rock, their second album is a MASTERPIECE.

From top to bottom, the songwriting is wonderful and very inventive the entire time. If you're looking for melody, it's here. In fact, it's truly an album designed for people who specifically appreciate vocal melodies above everything else. The way the album was recorded sounds very good and packs a LOT of energy and punch.

If ever there was such a thing as a rock n roll chameleon, Joe Jackson would be it. Over the years he has done albums that encompassed punk, new wave, pop, jazz, swing, album oriented rock, and even progressive rock. On this his first album Jackson burst on to the scene mainly appealing to the punk and new wave crowd, but unlike most artists of this ilk, Jackson could actually play the hell out a piano and wrote lyrics that were both biting and incredibly intelligent. This is an incredibly six track album. I much prefer this type of album (six songs that are all winners) to newer albums that cram 14-18 tracks on a CD and only the first 3-4 really matter. You can truly turn this album on and not have the desire to skip a single track.

Put this album on, sit back, and enjoy. Station to Station takes a while to build, but when it rocks, it rocks. Next is my favorite song of all time (no, not from this album, but of all time), Golden Years. How can you go wrong with finger snapping and whistling? Definitely a sing-along rock song.

This is the best album by the Ramones, PERIOD! Sure, the first one (Ramones) was great, Rocket to Russia was excellent, but Leave Home is the best of the bunch. If you are new to The Ramones, I suggest that you get this album. It also includes a live recording, when they played at the Roxy, in California. This is awesome and I urge you, if you don't have it, to get it now.

Unaware that it was a 4pt concept album, I purchased *Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness* as my first Coheed and Cambria CD. Later I purchased their other CDs, but I still love Good Apollo.
Why? The songs are... edgy, but in the best sense of the term. They are real and raw they scream of the darkest emotions in some songs - some lyrics professing a desire to kill straying lovers - and others of spurned love and desire. Emotive and deeply moving, this CD is amazing. A must get.

Waking the Fallen

I discovered Avenged Sevenfold through their self-titled album and really enjoyed it so I decided to pick up another one of their albums. Little did I realize that they had changed their style so drastically from where they began. Waking the Fallen has very good guitar and drums and such and usually has a very catch rhythm and melody but unfortunately the singing, er screaming, just isn't up to par. If you're a hard rock/metal fan that enjoys being able to understand the words to a song don't pick up this album. This album would have been a hundred times better if the screaming was converted even to a shout. I'm not saying he should have tried to sing like he did in City of Evil and self-title but screaming definitely isn't the answer for any band.

I adore all of DKM's efforts including this one, however, Blackout is their zenith. One of the best albums ever produced IMO.
