In the late 70's, early 80's, there was this monstrous black hole, completely devoid of talent, from which, every two years or so, 3 hit singles and a No1 album would be spewed unapologetically out.
The Police, (splendidly ironic name, given the crimes they regularly got away with) are guilty as charged, and their last somnambulistic studio album, all gaseous protest, and Caribbean sun-tanned `caring' = an absolute drag.
To be fair(!) there's actually a couple of good songs on `Synchronicity'. `Every Breath Tou Take' is fairly strong and `Synchronicity II' is a revelation. Where Gordon dug this up is a mystery, steaming rock guitar riffing and passionate vocals? Steady on there boys. The irony can't have been lost on him though, ... Read More:

Punk...with musicianship? Strange combination, but one that I like. Front to back, Social Distortion is a strong offering, chock full of attitude (the songs just sound like they're sneering at you with contempt). It also has a bit of a rockabilly flair to it that adds another dimension to the band's sound and gives the album some variety. Good stuff!

Not, as good as their latest album. However, if you prefer more emo or punkish rock than this my be up your alley. simply because the intonation of the singer(he's to whiney).

Okay...wow. This DVD has to be the best thing in the entire world. Being my favorite band ever, I didn't expect a letdown. And there wasn't one.
Bowling for Soup don't only playing songs, BFS entertain. As you watch this thing, you're cracking up, whether alone or with a group of Soupheads. You're mouth gets sore from smiling so much. I've never watched a DVD that I want to watch again as soon as the ending credits come on. It's insanely amazing. Buy it. Now
It's something you'll want to watch getting ready for the day and to watch quietly to fall asleep to.

The only reason I bought The Veronicas' The Secret Life of... CD is simply because I kept hearing comparisons between them and Meg & Dia (a band I enjoy a lot). I figured anyone being compared to Meg & Dia deserved at least a listen so I got this. Word of advice:
THIS IS NOTHING LIKE MEG & DIA.
It's not particularly bad. From track 6 on I quite enjoy listening to it. But, those first five songs are so disgustingly pre-teen that I can't even listen to them. Okay, I should probably elaborate on that a bit.
The music in those first few songs is pretty decent and the vocal delivery--as with the rest of the CD--is great. The lyrics are what destroy what really has the potential to be a good song. Don't believe ... Read More:

What a great idea this is! Basically this box set gathers the band's five excellent albums together which are "Outlandos d'Amour" (1978), "Reggatta de Blanc" (1979), "Zenyatta Mondatta" (1980), "Ghost In The Machine" (1981), and "Synchronicity" (1983) plus many b-sides that range from studio recordings not included in the albums or live tracks.
Of course all tracks have been remastered so if you are thinking about getting the Police albums, this is the way to do it! But to complete the collection you should also get the excellent double live album that was released in 1995 too! So don't forget about that. It includes two concerts. One from 1979 and the other from 1983.
For fans of the late 70's new wave movement or rock in general ... Read More:

The Talking Heads have put out some great music in the 1980's up to the mid 90's but I think this album was when they reached a creative pinnacle in their melodic style. David Byrne has the kind of creative mind which produces lyrics and music in a unique way. Because their music was always considered obscure, even within their category, they tended to attract a sub mainstream audience. "Speaking in Tounges" was their first record to get noticed but even so, it was considered eclectic. Then "Stop Making Sense" (the movie) came out and mainstream was going to see it and buying Talking Heads recordings, followed by the soundtrack for "True Stories."
What I like about it is that it's uplifting, fun, and energetic. The music makes you want to get up ... Read More:

While the Devo phenomenon as a whole may be somewhat time encapsulated, this debut album has absolutely remained as cutting-edge and vibrant as the day it came out some 30 years ago. Though the band already had a great satiric concept going (de-evolution), when they teamed up with Brian Eno for this project, the stuff of demented genius was created. The sound straddles punk, new wave, and the simplistic pop ditties of the sixties. The jumpy, jagged, hypercaffeinated tunes perfectly convey Devo's warped take on pop culture, and also serve to further pop as an art form. This is not a disc that I play in heavy rotation, but it sounds fresh every time I hear it, and only gets better with time.
