Overall a solid album, but in my opinion not as good as Crimson or Good Mourning. If you are a fan of the group I don't think you will be disappointed it is just not as good as the previous albums(which I love).
Release Date October 25, 1990
I second the pull up the roots comment! Might be my favorite song on the whole album. This entire album is awesome though, and its really good on a long drive in the summertime.

the cure's singles and best known melodic songs burn with passion and sheer genius.
It would be hard not to lose oneself in a glowing review.... however, that said, whoever came up with the following review quote, has managed to plumb the depth of the barrel of idiocy, and lose a piece of very relevant clarity:
"But for the rest of us who actually appreciate melodies as long as they aren't too commercialized"
If anyone anywhere can ascribe any sort of rational logical meaning to this gibberish, please write to the following people:

here, there and everywhere (mccartney, i presume)
losing my religion (stipe, buck, et al)
lovesong (mr. smith again)

Hunky Dory was Bowie's last album as an aspirant, just before he found fame with Ziggy Stardust. It's a fascinating work on many levels that display lyrical depth, vivid imagery, wit and great musical variety, from the music hall pop of Changes through the sixties pop of Oh You Pretty Things to the cinematic lyricism of Life On Mars, a soaring masterpiece. Another of my favorites is Fill Your Heart, a quirky number with his somersaulting voice over lively piano and cheeky sax. Elements of the folkie singer/songwriter are evident on numbers like Song For Bob Dylan while The Supermen reminds me of his later science fiction work like Diamond Dogs. Bowie also salutes Lou Reed and Andy Warhol here, in fact the whole album makes references to his musical influences. Hunky ... Read More:

Who doesn't love the Maine? Ever since they started putting demos on their Myspace page this band has blown up exponentially. The get more and more popular practically hour by hour. Their songs are ridiculously catchy and the lyrics are universal. What's not to like?
Their two previous EPs (Stay Up, Get Down and The Way We Talk) were amazing. Can't Stop, Won't Stop is just a continuation, and it just keeps getting better. All the tracks are catchy enough to be singles. If you listen close, the songs and the way they fit together tell a story. There are lyrics about being in love but still feeling awful ("Everything I Ask For"), being in love and feeling great ("I Must Be Dreaming"), breaking up and feeling awful ("You Left Me"), breaking up and feeling ... I'm a bit slow at discovering the Black Keys but I LOVE THEM since I did discover them! This is the best band to come along since Nirvana. Magic Potion was my first Keys purchase and I didn't think I could possibly love anything better by this band but man, I WAS WRONG! This CD ROCKS! Not a bad song on here!

It's difficult for me to speculate how many hundreds of times I've played this double CD set but I'll just say "often, for many years". "The Best of The Doors" represents the very essence of Classic Rock music of the turbulent 60s.
The Doors generated a unique, incredibly palatable sound, apart from all others. While this caveat probably exuded from "theater" as much as it did from musical innovation, the band's keyboard player, Ray Manzarek, was clearly as responsible for the brilliance of these compositions as was Jim Morrison himself.
Here's the lineup of these great old rock tunes:
CD No. 1
Break on Through
Light My Fire (7:05 version)
The Crystal Ship
People Are Strange
Strange Days

A brief survey of the musical landscape from about 1963 until the present yields the following results:
1. There are a lot of people who write and perform songs that are about nothing;
2. There are some people who write and perform songs that are about something;
3. There are precious few people who can write songs that are essentially about nothing and in constructing and performing them, turn them into songs that are about something.
David Byrne's unique genius, as far as I can tell, is his ability to slot himself (with band in tow) into the third category. Now perhaps this isn't quite a fair, accurate assessment of his body of work, because in a sense the songs he wrote during this period are indeed about something, in fact they are about ... David Bowie has had various watershed albums, I think 'Low' is one of them. It has to be said that at the time of release it was not received as well as previous works - his label being disinterested in sufficiently marketing it must have definitely contributed to the situation, forcing him to change contracts. It was a difficult period for Bowie, living a year in LA, alienated, troubled with drugs. 'Low' is a powerful result of that mid 70's era finding Bowie as always, willing to experiment with new ideas, to twist the expected. Together with Brian Eno he produced a David Bowie masterpiece which I for one still find exasperating considering the period it was done in and its context amongst other contemporaneous music being produced and retailed by major artists and labels. It still ... Read More:
