What Pearl Jam did, maybe even unwittingly, was to weld the thick sludgey minor-chord sound (and general angst) of grunge to arena size rock choruses and guitar power. In doing so, they managed to quickly outshine their nearest peers (Nirvana) commercially and ultimately become the vanguard for rock through the 90's. Along with Red Hot Chili Peppers and maybe Soundgarden, they shaped the sound of a decade and thrived to see their success sustained creatively.
"Rearviewmirror" reflects (har har) that 12 years between Ten and Binaural in solid fashion, even if does lean heavily on the first three albums. It also offers a dozen later track to show that, even while the band's spotlight had faded somewhat, albums like No Code were better ... Read More:

I don't know exactly where this album would rank on some kind of official list or a huge vote for the top 10 Heavy Metal albums, but on my website I ranked this timeless masterpiece 3rd behind Reign In Blood. I did have a really hard time deciding if it should be 2nd or 3rd though. Anyway, enough about that, here is my review.
FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE - This is easily one of the greatest album openers in heavy metal history and i love how Hetfield sings the song and the lyrics are great. The solo is very solid but nothing too amazing. My favorite part is probally the end of the song where they make it sound like a nuclear bomb is falling and then exploding, you can hear a rumbling sound at the very end like an explosion. A perfect ending to ... Read More:

Good CD, but it sounds like James is shouting to me from a car window as it's driving by. I don't know if they can remaster it properly or just should go ahead and re-record it along with Ride the Lightning and Kill 'em all.

The CD is a great follow up to Inhuman Rampage,it has all their classic elements Soaring Vocals,Warp Speed Guitar,Solid Drumming, etc.
It even has some variety in it witch is good because their other albums can get pretty exhausting.A great example of this variety is the third song "Reasons to Live" witch starts out with a very heavy intro with grinding drums, then it converts to the classic Dragonforce style, and then they break it down in the middle with some mellow guitar solo's [slightly mellow,,they do tear it up but in a different context],then it gets a little progressive for a second until it settles back down to their trademark sound. The CD has various moments like these that make the album a more enjoyable listen than their more tiresome works. ... "Highway To Hell" would be the album that put AC/DC on the map in the U.S., but would also be the last for lead singer Bon Scott who would die of alcohol poisoning shortly after the album's release. Scott always harnessed a playful nod and a wink sense of humor in his lyrics and vocals that would raise the level of the material up a few notches. You never got the feeling that he was taking himself too seriously. Musically in many ways AC/DC sticks to their patented formula, but on this album everything works very nicely. The title track became the band's first legit hit in the U.S. and remains one of the most famous classic rock guitar riffs to this day. For straight ahead rock n roll with a slight bluesy touch in spots it does not get much better than this. For me ... Read More:

I think all the songs on this are well done...they have melodies which a lot of other hard rock/metal doesn't. I have Indestructible and The Sickness also. Indestructible has guitar solos which i like, but i like the songs better on Ten Thousand Fists. I'm not a great music critic but I think if you like disturbed then you need to have this album.
Oh, and shame on whoever tagged this as alternative rock.

I don't think it is necessary to tell you that if you're a big fan of Fantomas or the Melvins you should've bought this by now. It is a great DVD, and I have to disagree with the reviewer above me who said that the 'camera tricks' are 'cheesy'. It alternates between crystal clear high definition, and darker and grainy image with a light 'splash' of camera effects and graphics. This gotta be the first show I've seen with computer graphics added that don't suck a big one (like a few i've seen with big explosions, outer space images and planets coming at you, or some others with colorful distorted computer polygons or whatever, now that's cheesy).
It is done in my opinion in a very artistic taste and it succeeds in creating a proper atmosphere. The music sound loud and ... Read More:
