Misanthropic, gothic, indestructable. Purists will inevitably favor Exile over Sticky, and it's true we've heard "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses" 'til we're dizzy with indifference, BUT, there's something to be said about that 3:52 residing between. And I'll say it: "Sway" is the quintessential Stones session and, most likely, the perfectest damaged purebloodedest rock song ever recorded. It's got that underhanded epic quality, coming way down , which nobody else (like, GnR) could ever effect. Eddie Vedder's growling baritone voice expresses the concerns of a generation with his powerful lyrics, while guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready create flooring guitar riffs and melodies. Every song on Ten can stand on it's own, while still demonstrating the quality of the album.

Undertow begs for the listener to see, hear and especially FEEL what it is all about. From the lyrics, art and the music itself you receive an explaination on what Tool thinks about life, isolation, love disguised as sex, sex disguised as an oulet to understanding oneself, politics and disorder.
In the begining of the album you hear what sounds like someone hitting a bong (hookah for our eastern friends) ironic huh, the first track is intolerance and you hear that sound when in actuality it is a scuba divers lungs filling up with water and suffocating. Music, like movies, tends to go into a lot of phases with many people latching onto a certain genre or artist deeming them the saviors that will rid the taste left in our mouth of the predecessors. With the drugs and excess and party-with-every-and-any-girl lyrics of the 80's metal bands, in comes the so-called "grunge" movement which was more introverted and coming from a place of hurt and angst. In comes Oasis during the so-called "Brit rock" movement which dealt with more uplifting matters like the love of rock and roll music. Sure it's derivative but who gives a you-know-what when it's a top record from top to bottom.
