Moving along from Oceanborn where the band started to really show what they might become this album was more of a consolidation of the Nightwish sound rather than a leap upwards to the next level. This album shows the band choosing not to retreat to the mellower strains of Angels Fall First and the presence of rockers with some real musical muscle such as The Kinslayer and Wishmaster shows that Nightwish were starting to be able to marry their love of ornate and original riff and melody combinations with connective songs that communicated on a more guttural as well as cerebral level. And this is assisted by Tarja spitting forth some of her most venomous vocal deliveries yet on some of the tracks here.

This CD by System of A Down's lead singer is a kick butt CD. Highly recommend. He plays piano which is awesome to listen to. Elect the Dead is a great CD that comes with an insert where you can join his website as a member and recieve discounts off merchandise. This is a bonus to alos getting the chance to listen to his CD.

The Day the World Went Away is just one of several examples in the Nine Inch Nails collection of Halos that is really only purchasable for either its collector's value or for a single, outstanding track. Here, that track is "The Day the World Went Away (Quiet)", a solid remix of the song that appears originally on The Fragile. The track begins quietly and with newly recorded vocals up to its standard form, then drops off and spends the last several minutes in an even quieter setting, in a bit of an unconventional song structure (well, perhaps not so unconventional for Trent Reznor). I am new to this kind of music and it's a good start to listen to this one.
I usually listen to metal music but when I hear this album, my ears accept the tune :)
I guess "Meta" and "Storm" are good introductions to Assemblage if You want to hear the band.
I'm going to have all the releases of this band soon.

Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)

Wow, Marilyn Manson actually has some listenable songs for once. That makes the album passable. Unfortunately he's not a very good songwriter or singer, and the guitar playing is VERY average too. No need to even buy this album because of how average it is for the most part. Just a couple (rather predictable) songwriting moments make a few of the songs tolerable. The obnoxious way the guitar riffs and vocals come across means I give the album a big "no thanks". No point going into detail for each song since they all sound the same anyway.

Withering to Death

First off, I hate metal like this...And I hate J-rock just as much...

But something about Dir en Grey entrapped me the last couple of months...
Back in June a friend showed me the video of "Obscure" just for the shock factor. I was...un-impressed by the music itself as first, and remained so until a October, when I happened across "Dead Tree" and it's video.

Dead Tree is easily one of my favorite song's, with a cathartic factor I have not experienced sense The Tea Party's "Transmission", and album that leaves me tired at the end of a full listen, just wanting to lay down and rest...

Not to say that the rest of Withering to Death pales in comparison to Dead Tree, 99% of it remains at that level, through myriad changes in tone, emotion, and style's. ... Read More:

Frost EP: Sent To Destroy

Sent to Destroy is great fun, as are its remixes. I especially enjoyed the unmixed version and suicide commando mix.

The Kill is great as an instrumental track, though at times it seems a little lacking. Assuming the album version of it has vox, that could be fixed.

Prince of E-Ville isn't overwhelming, but the Caustic mix of isn't bad.

If you liked any of Combichrist's other works, you'll enjoy this, and the remixes are certainly worth the extra couple dollars. If you're new to combichrist, then stop reading my review and go to youtube or something.

Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights

I really like this CD- HIM character comes through true to form. This is more mellow overall than some of their releases. It is most alike Love Metal in my opinion. Good melodies, fairly even tempo'd and with some variety. I've enjoyed this one a lot and rate it 5 stars!
