I love this collection of ballads by Oum Kalthoum. It reads like divine poetry sung by a muezzin. Most of these songs are lovesongs, but the lyrics are beautiful and classic, and her voice is as bright as the cardinal heart bleeding across a canopy of crystalline irises. Her voice weeps with regret and humility...like a bedouin wailing at the stars. The accompaniment accentuates her desert voice in their subtlety, a great partnership.

The Ozomatli: Live at the Fillmore DVD does a great job of capturing this highly talented band as best as can be done, without actually being there dancing, sweating and laughing in person. I thought this sounded canned, tinny, and too "processed pop". I chalk some of this up to my taste so I'm giving it three stars. She lacks the soul of Nawal el Zoghbi, who is light years better.

Hey I'm a cabaret girl, and I loved this CD. It definately has that stripped down tribal thing going on, but the tracks are upbeat and funky. There is a great Beledi that I can't stop listening to.....Good stuff!

This is the fourth album I've enjoyed from Afro Celts; their blend of African rhythms and Celtic instrumentation is a joy, and never becomes boring - I've used this music as background in my classes, and my students inevitably ask me where they can get it! You can get lost in these songs, and catch yourself humming the melodies long after. I highly recommend any and all of their music to fans of ambient and world music.

I didn't see the movie yet and I'm not familiar with mr kilian work but I bought this ost with the hope that finaly I will make the right choice and I'll actually enjoy the music.guess what:I'm thrilled!!it's a realy fine soundtrack.sad,intense and in the same time powerfull.this soundtrack doesn't need the movie.it can stand up for itself.buy it and I guarantee you will be more then satisfied with it,you'll be moved.
so bravo for the composer and I look forward to listen his future compositions.

When this came on our local alternative station, WCBE, my ears perked straight up. What is THAT? I had never heard anything quite like it. I couldn't tell whether it was Arabic or Jewish (hallelujah and amen) and I had to dance while it was on, no question, in the midst of cleaning my kitchen. My pet cats and birds wondered what the deal was. When it was over I couldn't wait to hear what it was....Pharoah's Daughter? great name but still no clue, Arabic or Jewish, what's going on, is the Messiah here already? definitely overdue. So now I've found it on Amazon and I'm thrilled not just to be able to order this but to know so many other people are as blown away as I am. May the Middle East get it together the way this music does.
