Imagine glam-rocker Ziggy Stardust coming out of retirement twenty-five years later as The Boy from Ipanema, or as an black samba singer named Seu Jorge, singing his biggest hits unplugged and in Portuguese, and you'd have The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions. Seu Jorge is perhaps best known for his role as Pelé Dos Santos in Wes Anderson's 2004 film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, a Portuguese aquatic safety expert who entertains the rest of the crew with his David Bowie covers. The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions is a collection of Bowie songs Jorge recorded for the film soundtrack. Five of his Bowie covers were included in the original film, and seven others are available only on this album. This album will appeal to anyone who likes Bowie ... Read More:

Yes, it's a great CD and DVD...and my expectations were fulfilled. I've seen Mana in concert twice and the DVD and music are great representations of the experience. Great delivery of the songs, too, and so it's well worth the money.
Didn't get five stars because, as another reviewer mentioned, just too much that's covered in En Vivo. And do we really need another live recording of "El Rey"? Yes, these are the songs you'd hear at the concert so I suppose that's the reason the selections were made, so I can cut the band some slack. Five stars would have been warranted if it had been double length with some more newer songs.

I know, I'm behind the times. I have listened to Shakira since she broke into the American music scene but only just now got around to buying this album.
I've heard and read about tons of people who complain she's too commercial on this album. Fine, it's pop. Meaning popular.
Still, even if you're distracted by that there's no doubt that her voice is haunting. Just freaking awesome. She stands out.
I plan on getting most her other albums over time. This one is a lot fun to listen too.

"Bachata" is a party music that comes from the Dominican Republic, and since the 1980s it has become a globally popular dance style... This disc explores bachata's roots in the early 1960s to the early '80s, when it was still a primarily acoustic form, mixing the heart-piercing sentimentality of the bolero with dazzling, multi-layered guitar work similar to the Cuban guajira and Puerto Rican jibaro music... This is amazingly rich, satisfying music -- one of the finest historical Latin albums of the decade, packed with powerful performances from rare, hard-to-find records. Highly recommended! Insomniac seems to have a slower pace than than his previous efforts, but it all blends together quite well, with tracks oscillating between exuberant dance anthems and softly spoken, well arranged ballads. The album concludes, as per usual, with a series of earlier tracks in Spanish and two remixes.
With this album, I'm always reminded of a commercial for the MTV show Rob and Big, where the two leading men enter a drive-thru car wash where no one can see them and blast the song "Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)" on maximum volume as they dance in their seats and sing along. Once the machine wash is finished and their car exits the tunnel, they turn to one another and agree to keep it a secret. Yes, I'm going for a point here. While the past ... Read More:
