We heard this CD while visiting the Dominican Republic during Christmas. A guard was kind enough to get the name of the tape and the pianist for us. Bought the same afternoon. The CD version is even better!! Beautiful Christmas music with a Latin twist!!! Listen to it: You wil love it!!

"Danca ma mi Criola" is a bouncy love song."Me ki sa oule" is a lilting song of longing."Bomba traigo yo" is joyfully infectious.The BEST songs are "Falso Testemunho" from Cape Verde&"Veinte anos" from Cuba.Both these songs are about unrequited love&betrayal.For popular songs,they are moving."Sonegaly" is an enchanting song from Madagascar.Tarika hasn't been as good since."E I Taurua"&"Olinda Road" are magical songs from Tahiti&Hawaii.

D'Gary&Jihe from Madagascar as well as Quito Rymer from Tortola aren't quite so good.Interesting sidenote-Rymer's "Mix up world" is one of the themes for Putumayo's World Music Hour.Oh well.

There is no other score to give this collection but all 5 stars. If you ever wondered what happened to Eddie Grant after Electric Avenue, he owns the company that has been putting out these CD collections of Kitchener and Sparrow. Some of the songs here are not reflected on any of those other CD's. So scoop this one.
Monster hits like Jean and Dinah featured in the film Mystic Masseur and the elegant Margie are here. But the all time champion Calypso on here must be Sa Sa Yea. While Sparrow is known internationally for his smooth voice and provocative lyrics, Lord Kitchener was always more respected in Trinidad for his cleverly camouflaged double entendres and rich musical compositions...compositions that always took the orchestral needs of the steel ... i own alot of music by cubanos- ruben, chucho, beny, celia, ibrahim, chocolate, mongo and the list goes on. this album is as good as it gets. it swings, it's soulful, it's jazzy, it's got that riddim. let's face it when it comes to music, boxing, even baseball that little island produces some incredible talent. compralo!

Boukman Eksperyans spread their message throughout the world with their artful blend of traditional Haitian rhythms with rock, reggae, and Caribbean sounds.

The past few years Boukman Eksperyans have appeared on the popular African Fete tour, where I got to see them preform. The tour also included other giant international stars like Oumou Sangare, Femi Kuti, and Baba Maal.

Has Taj Mahal lost it? One might think so after a superficial listen to his latest outing. Closer attending renders a different conclusion.

It's all about the vibe, here--one that, apparently, not everyone can get on board with. How can you have the blues on Hawaii? Or in the Caribbean? Simple. Not everyone is a plantation owner or scuba-diving tourist guide. Read V. S. Naipaul's great book, The Middle Passage, and find out what it means to be a "client culture."

Yes, there's a kind of inanity in much of the lyrics (although a good portion of them are traditional). Yes, this is miles from Mississippi John Hurt (although it contains one of his tunes), let alone Cory Bell or even Muddy Waters.

Beautiful!!!!!SPIN ONE ON THIS !!I found out about these wonderful gentleman by digging in my fathers crate of albums that I still have 2 this day!I recommend this album and at least try their first efort until the Welcome Home album ,before they started to incorporate DISCO IN JAZZ???!!!
