I have about 50 Putumayo compilations in my collection and this CD is absolutely the best of the entire lot. There is not a bad track on the disc. It is the epitome of feel-good music, highly listenable and danceable. While every song is outstanding, the favorite track in my household is #8 Kanpe Sou Yon Bit. Do we know what it means? Not a clue; but if you really want to check it out, the liner notes in all Putumayo compilations are informative and comprehensive. Whether you're a casual fan of world music or you want to add to a growing collection, French Caribbean is a wise purchase. Highly recommended.

It has a nice peppery Latin beat. I love Ska Cubano's remake of Chango. They're on youtube and I love them. I have shared their music with others and Ska Cubano gets rave reviews. I love Amazon more each day. The CD is great, but the distributor left a lot to be desired. I ordered 3 Cds from different companies the same day. Two of them were at my door within a week - less than two weeks. I ordered another CD from someone else later... it came in the mail quick. Doolicity, the distributor took a few days over a month - over 4 weeks. The slowest service that I have had. Their response is not an example of good customer service either.

I disagree with the previous reviewer only in one respect, he gave this CD 4 stars and I would give it 6 stars if that was possible. I grew up in Cuba and besides "sálsa en mi sángre" I have a large CD collection and this one is one of the best; I can hardly stop playing it since I bought it. The Rólo Martínez selections in particular are to die for. "En Cása de Pédro El Cójo" (while politically incorrect - translates to "In the House of Peter The Cripple") is a superb cut - really wonderful to listen to and dance. The Bamboléo "Yo No Me Parézco a Nádie" (I don't Resemble Anyone) is a Timba that while difficult to dance, is nonetheless intoxicating. I strongly recommend this CD - among the best in my large collection.

one of 3 cd's of my very first amazon purchase, it deserves a review (and an enthusiastic one, at that).
i have many mongo's albums and on some (our man in havana and from the roots, for example) the great don ramon explore his afro-cuban heritage for about twenty minutes (an lp side) and then moves to his trademark afro-cuban jazz more palatable to internation ears.
but here you have about 80 minutes of pure roots and culture: bembes, rumbas et al at the very best.
no drummer (and serious music lover) should be without this gem in his/her collection.
mongo still reigns supreme!
