Eva Cassidy is one of those people who managed to get discovered for great talent even without the help of American Idol. And I am so glad, because her voice remained so true, clear and wonderful that she produced this and a number of other really wonderful albums before her untimely death.
She has the kind of voice that makes you realize that only a very select few of singers really (no, really) can sing. These are all covers, and just simply wonderful, unique, beautiful, fantastic music.
I listen to her albums when I want something smooth, something sweet, something unique, and something great. It's not "easy listening", or "oldies"; it's great music redone in a new and uniquely fresh way.

If you thought Dan's release, "Carry Me Across the Mountains" was a fantastic piece of traditional bluegrass work, you were right. If you expect "Wheels" to be of the same genre, you'll be very disappointed. "Wheels" is certainly not what I expected. There's only a couple of tradition bluegrass pieces on the whole CD. Musicianship is excellent but for me it was a disappointing buy. I think sometimes fantastic musicians wander around searching for new horizons but in that search they loose their roots.

The Second Gleam (2008, Ramseur) The Avett Brothers' fourth studio EP. **1/2
The Avett Brothers are a definitive college-esque band. Hippie circles love 'em and they've got enough spunk to attact even offended ears, but on The Second Gleam, the energy is lost. That in itself is not the problem. In fact, if anything, it shows maturity. However, the material is just downright dull from start to finish. In fact, only on "The Greatest Sum" do soulful vocals actually appear, as the rest of the EP is dominated with cliche remembrances of love, family, and death. To say it is bad is one thing; awful, certainly not. But what makes it bad is its own laziness, which is a cumulative would-be effort of simple rhythms and lyrics.

I will always remember and thank my beloved brother, Thomas John Greene, who introduced me to Eva Cassidy some years ago. This is a beautiful album of her music (they all are). How can I not think of you, Tom, as I listen to Imagine... God bless your sweet soul (and Eva's too). Miss you. Love, Eileen

I stumbled across this album while searching for another Brady Rymer album for my kids. My wife and I have the privilege of parenting 4 small children (our oldest just turned 5), and music is a big part of our lives.
Initially the old picture on the cover caught my eye in one of Amazon's "People who bought this also bought..." suggestions. Then I saw that it had "You Are My Sunshine" on it and had to take a listen. I was immediately won over by Elizabeth Mitchell's (not to be confused with the LOST version) honest, warm, and very welcoming voice. So intimate and understated, and so absent from popular music today. Her arrangements are both simple and masterful and such that you just want to sing along.

I love how with every album Loreena McKennitt puts out, her album is the results of her travels all over the world. On her album THE BOOK OF SECRETS (which would be her last studio album for several years before AN ANCIENT MUSE), Loreena explores the history of the celts. When I listen to the cd, I feel like I am getting a history lesson in celtic history. I like that Loreena writes music that is never insulting or trite.Although the album version of "The Mummer's Dance" is a far cry from the radio version, it is nonetheless still a joy to listen to. The album version is longer and slower while the radio versoin is shorter and more upbeat. Me thinks radio wanted a version that would appeal to a broader audience. If that was the case it worked but unfortunately ... Read More:

I was very disappointed to receive this book which was sold as new, but which had a handwritten inscription in the back indicating that someone had previously owned this volume.
The book is excellent and the CD with it is wonderful. I just wish it didn't have the writing in it. Will Amazon send me another? I think they should and I shouldn't have go to the trouble and expense of returning this one. We'll see.

After 4 spins, I've decided that this is not my favorite of Dylan's work. The only track with which I somewhat connect is the final track "Ain't Talkin'" where the somber mood seems portend a revelation, "They say prayer has the power to heal, so pray for me mother; In the human heart an evil spirt does* dwell, I'm trying to love my neighbor & do good to others, but oh mother, things ain't going well." The rest of the songs have almost no melodies with arrangements that blend from one into another. This week, Bob's son Jakob's "On Up the Mountain" is #1 in my personal top ten. Seeing Things is a far superior set to "Modern Times," if it's fair to compare. At this point, Dylan can of course do whatever he wants and it will be published; but this is his ... Read More:
