"Punch" is the second album from the newly renamed "Punch Brothers," their first being "How To Grow a Woman From the Ground." It's unclassifiable music, which clearly springs from bluegrass but with influences too numerous to count. It mixes the idioms and instruments of bluegrass with the complex harmonies of contemporary classical and jazz. I guarantee you've never heard anything like it. It makes Bela Fleck sound tame and traditional. Chris Thile, the frontman for the group has been called "the most virtuosic American ever to play the mandolin," and the other members of the group receive less effusive praise only because their instruments ... This album is just...transcendent. I'm still profoundly affected by it after nearly five years' owning the disc. Truly enough, Gillian Welch's other albums feature what might be labeled a greater "variety" of song styles, and they deserve repeated listening as well, but "Time (the Revelator)" stands alone. I love it, and dearly, precisely because of its unique, hypnotic tone and pacing. Altcountry it isn't, and this is key; Welch and her facile, idiosyncratic guitarist David Rawlings succeed in the creation of an economical yet expansive acoustic sound-world, at once spare and sophisticated, and very beautiful. A pure, resigned sadness emanates from somewhere inside most of these haunting songs; never gratuitous, but so connected to real life in its ... Read More:

I recently purchased the original SNL years and Janis Ian performed her signature song, "Seventeen". I remembered that I had, for many years, owned the album and had listened to it endlessly, not just for that song, but for all of them. It is deeply moving, now, as it was when I was much younger. It has a timeless quality that I look for in music I collect.

before you buy be aware this is not the same Celtic Thunder as the 2008 group. Their CD and DVD is delightful. This 1988group, while interesting is rather old fashioned and amateurish sounding. It has that sound of The Early Elvis Recordings. You may like it and it is Irish music.Just a caution so you (unlike me ) know what you are buying

I recently saw Arlo Guthrie in concert and when he did Alice's Restaurant, I came away slightly disappointed and determined to find the original. This one is it! Arlo himself even rushes through the song he's been stuck singing all these years. My ears remember the pauses and things that made this such a delight to begin with! The ONLY ONE to own!

I love Harry Chapin and this is a great album, but be warned that this CD version is not the full album. It's missing two cuts: Love is Just Another Word, and She is Always Seventeen. I bought this to replace a cassette tape I have had forever and noticed that the number of tracks didn't match. Then I noticed a disclaimer in very small print that these two songs weren't included "due to time restrictions." Personally, I think this is a bit of a ripoff. To make matters even worse, neither of those songs is available as an MP3 download.

I have a retail store in San Diego. When playing this CD in my store the customers either dance or sing the lyrics to this CD. I hear it all day long and still enjoy it as my favorite. Well done...

Vashti Bunyan's first and second albums were released, uh, thirty-five years apart. Meaning it could have been more than three decades before we heard from her again.
Fortunately such is not the case. "Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind: Singles and Demos 1964-1967" collects scattered odds and ends of Bunyan's early work, and you'd really never have known that it's from decades ago -- these two discs are full of timeless pop and pretty little folk songs.
It kicks off with the title track, a smooth and catchy concoction of strings, cymbals, guitar and brazen horn. The lyrics aren't exactly perky, though: "Why does the sky turn grey every night?/Sun rise again in time/Why do you think of the first love you had?/Some things just stick in your ... Read More:

Well, if you don't have this do yourself a favour and buy it. The package is great with great photos from the show.
As for Dylan, he is in high spirits and most possibly stoned out of his mind as he laughs, shares jokes, forgets lyrics...
He is also delivering all songs passionately making this one concert a very special indeed. A mere three months later he was recording Bringing It All Back Home and by doing so he was also a new Dylan.
