i was wary at first, but plain and simple, this album has much more depth and new concepts. its lovely. besties, mirando and shiller and mumtaz khan. but its all good (besides black heroes that song title makes me sound racist)

This band is amazing. I'd have to say that this is my least favorite of their full length cds because it features two of my least favorite songs but it's still a very good record with very talented artists.

When I heard these words, the first of the first song, I was completely hooked.

It's a great album, full of 1960's-sounding music, but with themes from the 1990's and 2000's. Every song's a winner, with lyrics that stick in your mind.

It took a while for me to "get" My Morning Jacket. But now that I finally figured out that Jim James is the new archangel of American rock, I've been working my way backwards through their studio work to discover what gems have yet to shine through my ears and tickle the musical capacitors in my brain.

With some bands, looking into the past can be a hazardous course. But the MMJ catalog proves to be an intriguing, if inconsistent, study in songwriting development with very few bumps in the road.

The Queen Is Dead is a showcase of some of the best of 80's brittpop. Morrissey is an accomplished lyricist and yes a great vocalist. Johnny Marr is responsible for the music and frankly he does a bang up job to say the least. The problem I have with this recording has nothing to with the music. The book-let is a travesty. The cover is uggly and the photos look atrocious. The clothes they wear look drab to say the least. The decision to have the latter half in pink is also a bad decision to say the least. Apparently Morrissey made the sleeve and that is shame. Since he is a great vocalist and lyricist but a subpar artist. Steve Wright must be a friend of theirs since the photos look they have been shot by an amateur.

The Smiths only released a handful of albums, but most of them are masterpieces or near masterpieces. This is their 2nd best behind The Queen is Dead. It has arguably their most famous single, How Soon Is Now?. Many have made fun of St. Morrissey because of his "tawdry whining", but who would disagree with the chorus here that "I am human and I need to be loved!"? Only an arrogant, nihilistic punk who prides himself on feeling nothing. Many are just afraid of someone like Morrissey, who really lays it all out and dares you to touch his soul. I've stated in other Smiths reviews that his lyrics are much wittier than most people give him credit for.
