Since the Strokes seem to be on hiatus at this time, it looks like their side projects will have to do for now, and this one by the Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti does it very well. No singing by him, but the other two members of the band (Rodrigo Amarante & Binki Shapiro) trade vocals throughout without overdoing it. The album itself is a mix of Velvet Underground (the Nico version), the Strokes (of course!) and some Brazilian and 70's pop to boot. Favorite tracks for me so far are "Don't Watch Me Dancing", which has a neat guitar break in the middle and reminds me of a cross between "Mr. Bojangles" and "The Girl From Ipanema", "Keep Me in Mind" which is very Strokes-like, and "Next Time Around", which has a bright, sunny pop touch. ... I was hesitant to buy this CD because I was afraid that by the third time around, the Pink Martini style would be getting a little tired and faded, but my goodness -- I was so wrong! Every track on this CD is brilliant. Amazingly, China Forbes is a more confident singer than ever, and the sequencing, compositions, arrangements and musicianship are as magical and as clever as can be. It's enough to make me want to move to Portland!

Why is this cd so good, when the Stand In's was to me, a laskluster effort?

When I heard Okkervil River was putting out a new cd I was torn because I was glad to hear that their was new material, but then I heard it was the second half of what was supposed to be a double cd, the latter half of the Stand In's. Which to me was a labored listen at best. So I was hesitant about picking up the new cd.


I was glad I did. This cd seems to be solid from begining to end. At times, admittedly the melodies are simple, but it seems to do what the songs need to do and that is flow together perfectly and deliver a well put together cd. For me it is a return to BSB and DTROGD.

Ignore the person who says this is not for over 20's, I am late 30's and love this album. It is full of great tunes, very catchy with strong beats. It is best described as electronic pop, but I think it will strongly appeal to some Hip Hop heads too. It is from Sweden but lyrics are in English.
Buy it!!!

Recently, I put my iTunes on shuffle (not sumthin I normally do), and Imogen's "Hide and Seek" started to play. My whole body started to tingle cuz I just love this song, and I hadn't heard in quite a while. After the song had finished, I immediately took my iTunes off shuffle mode, and started "Speak For Yourself!" from track one. "Ahh....!!" I thought to myself, "...such an inspiring album!"...I bathed my hearing senses with every nuance I could soak in. Into my 2nd-listen-in-a-row through the album, I had a disturbing thought! - I had never written a review of one of my all time favorite albums, ever!

Our Little Corner of the World: Music From Gilmore Girls

The compilation is very reminiscent of the variety of music we heard on the show--kinda quirky and upbeat. The theme song and a few other distinct tracks from the show remind me how much I enjoyed watching the series. It's a great soundtrack!

For sure Muse's best album and might be one of the best albums ever made.
Album starts off very strong with New Born.. great guitar work especially if you see it live.
Next comes Bliss, very good song, even though its very simple.
Then comes the very epic song of Space Dementia, amazing!
Other highlights include Plug In Baby, Citizen Erased, Microcuts, Darkshines.
Yes every song in this album is amazing. Buy it! Listen to it! You won't be disappointed. Amazing album, my favorite!
