While not as catchy as Summer in Abaddon, it still has all the good qualities of a Pinback album. A few upbeat songs mingled with some laid back stuff equals a well balanced release. Definitely recommended.

I expected more from this album even though I read the track titles before I bought it. Transatlanticism and Breathe are the only real keepers in the mix for me. The Onion in the Petunia Patch is pretty, but really just a novelty. As a huge fan of the show and what I remember to be it's soundtrack, this album was a disappointment.

This CD contains a set of beautifully orchestrated ballads by a very offbeat and clever songstress. The music has a haunting feel that stays with you. She continues to mesmerize me with her almost unintelligble words and her mixture of sadness and humor. I hope she intends to continue her music and her art. Sia and her musicians produce a wonderland of sound that is very different yet so very beautiful.

I'll quick this simple. There are two gems on this collection: "Spotlight On Christmas" by Rufus Wainwright and "Donde Esta Santa Claus?" by Guster. Sixpence None The Richer's "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear" is also enjoyable enough due to Leigh Nash's patented vocals.

This is an excellent dvd. I have not watched the video's yet, but have been playing the concert since I got the dvd. It is a little rough around the edges, not as smooth a performance as when I saw them live, or in Austin city limits, but yet, a very very good dvd. Highly recommended to all fans.

Mirah's music is almost like a genre unto itself which is why she's so unconventional and unknown to most everyone. At the same time, no two song sounds the same, which means that the listener could adore one track and abhor the next. When first listening to the tracks, it's hard not to think "this music is... strange."
Mirah's voice is incredibly simple-- it sounds like a person singing lightly to herself under the assumption that no one else is listening. Her voice has almost a sweet, breathy naivete about it. Very rarely does she sing with different emotion, but when she does she's fabulous: In "The Garden," Mirah's agony is incredibly convincing. I would've liked to hear more songs with the same longing sadness.

"Chelsea hotel" by Lloyd Cole may very well be the worst cover in history. What madness would provoke someone to turn this great song into an upbeat softrock abortion? I love the drumming especially, wow, it makes me want to drive screwdrivers into my ears. And how it falls off after the chorus, So dramatic! -- like the buildup of a cheap soap opera before a commercial for douches. Total garbage. There are few greater crimes than taking something great and pointlessly remaking it into something awful. Stop me before I listen to that awesome harmonic solo again!

I'm probably one of the few people who couldn't get into the tv series SIX FEET UNDER. I tried but I just couldn't get into the show however I always liked the music that they used in the series. While I did enjoy the first SIX FEET UNDER soundtrack, the second volume is my personal favorite. Like the soundtrack to GARDEN STATE, SIX FEET UNDER VOL. 2: EVERYTHING captures that mixed tape feel with its eclectic collection of artists ranging from jazz great Nina Simone to alternative rock heroes The Arcade Fire. I personally like the varied sounds on the soundtrack. The diverse sound certainly captured the essence of the dark mood of the show. There was not one song on the soundtrack that I did not like.

Compared to Xavier Rudd's larger body of work, "Dark Shades of Blue" languishes in a slump. I first want to establish that I adore Xavier Rudd; I enjoy his live show and I was enthralled by many of his earlier albums like "White Moth" and "Solace." What is the issue? It's hard to say. This pleasant album features all of the typical elements of a good Xavier Rudd release. It features Rudd's killer slide guitar, a good overall sound, the infusion of aboriginal sounds and his environmental consciousness. In this respect, "Dark Shades of Blue" seems a bit redundant. It is more of the same without taking things to the next level. What's ultimately missing is compelling song writing. 'Blackwater' is an amazing, jamband friendly instrumental piece that rocks hard.
