This album simply cannot be beat. You get some of the greatest songs from one of the all-time great post-war bluesmen, Chester Burnett, a.k.a. Howlin' Wolf. If BB King is a fine wine, Howlin' Wolf is a shot of strong scotch. The CD starts out with Moaning at Midnight, a song which will send chills up your spine the first time you hear it....if anyone can be said to have an inimitable voice, it can be said of Chester Burnett.
Personally, I was not sure I would like Howlin' Wolf as I was just getting into the genre of the blues, and so purchased this album instead of his 3 CD box set. Later, I also added His Best, Volume 2, to my collection. In any case, this album (or the box set), is a must have for anyone who loves the blues. ... Read More:

On "You And Me" Joe moves back into blues territory albeit a mix of electric blues and classic rock that had it's hey day back in the late 60's and early 70's. Comparisons to bands of the era like Cream, Ten Years After, or Robin Trower would be appropriate. In fact Bonamassa does an absolutely scorching cover of Led Zeppelin's "Tea For One" that in many ways rivals the original. "You And Me" is a mix of blues covers and originals. Joe pulls in some heavyweight accompaniment on this one with Jason Bonham on drums and Carmine Rojas (Rod Stewart, Nektar) on bass. This is another stellar album from Bonamassa which should please anyone who is a fan of fiery blues guitar and vocals.

Unfortunately, the low rating is due to the fact that this cd arrived two times with significant skipping, making it impossible to really hear and enjoy. I liked what I heard enough to think that I would've liked it otherwise but, after two bad copies, asked for a refund.

I am a fan of Ben Harpers. Have been since the '90's. I love his vision of music. His soulful vocals. The lyrics of this cd and the energy that went into it, make it my favorite all time of his albums. I even own his newer ones, they still do not compare. This is where it all started....

A great box set of of blues from the man who was before Jimi, before Stevie and before Eric. I should have been listening to Buddy long ago. Three solid discs of tunes and a snappy DVD with a great mix of interview and concert video. Includes a sizeable booklet of Buddy Guy history along with the CD tracks and players. I love this set and I have nothing negative to say about it. A must have!

I recently had the privilege to see Michael Burks in concert - it was one of the best shows I have EVER seen. His guitar playing is second to none. I've never heard anyone play better - his technique and tone is fabulous. He played a bunch of songs I had not heard yet - I was expecting most of the songs from "I Smell Smoke". The band was very tight and all were execellent musicians. His first set lasted two hours. I know I was witnessing a blues legend (in my book, he already is one). Now to Iron Man. This may be one of the best blues-rock CDs ever produced. After hearing the CD, I recognize the songs from the first set of his show. The CD sounds very much like their show quality - excellent on every tune. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who appreciates fantastic ... Read More:

I stopped listening to any kind of radio a few years ago, so my exposure to new artists (to me) is via the internet.
I was on YouTube watching clips of Sister Rosetta Tharpe (Up Above My Head) and saw a clip of Ruthie Foster doing a cover, needless to say I was intrigued and sought out her music and bought this release.
What a treat. Her blues/soul sensibilities are refreshing. I'll be be exploring the rest of her catalog, which I'm sure I'll enjoy.

I love this CD. They don't even need to list the guest artists. Make no mistake, this is buddy's CD. From the first second of the first song you realize this is something special. I have never heard better vocals from Buddy, so powerful, so deep. He truely captures the blues and then he blows it away. The guitar work is amazing, I'm a SRV fanatic, and this is as close to the raw power and intensity of any SRV recording.
