Flight of the Conchords should have done a little more brainstorming when trying to come up with things to sing about. This disc has five songs, and two of them are about sex. The opening track, "Business Time," is a rhythm-driven slow jam with the singer breathily monologuing about having sex with his wife/girlfriend... not a very welcoming way to start off your very first disc release. We move on to "If You're Into It," and hey, more sex! This time, the singer is encouraging a girl to have sex with some other guy.
Once you get past those two, the rest of the disc is very good. "I'm Not Crying" is, without a doubt, the best Conchords song yet. The subtle ironies and slight jabs at psychological denial of a lover's rejection are absolutely ... Read More:

I'm relatively new to The Stills and I heard this album before the other two. Since I haven't spun Logic yet, maybe that's why I can genuinely appreciate this album in a vacuum. Well, I am currently listening to WF and I like WF too. But Oceans is much catchier, I can hear hints of bands such as Dredg and even AFI and Funeral For A Friend, which is fine with me. Tim and Dave's voices are both nice, it's hard to tell the difference most of the time.
It reminds me of the situation that Funeral For A Friend went through. They changed their style completely on their current album Tales, and although it's a decent album, compared to their previous work, it's easy to see why it got trashed.

The first time I heard Trent Reznor and NIN, he was still opening for other bands. All I can say is: WOW. This was LIVE industrial music, so good that it didn't need a studio to clean it up. What others have written about this being the most "pop-like" album is true, but that's only in relative terms. It's definitely not top-40 material. The subject matter is classic for this kind of music (heartbreak, bitterness, anger), but different from the old-school industrial 80's sound. I felt a lot of other (pre-NIN) bands were somewhat alientating upon first-listen: once I knew the songs, I liked them, but they had to grow on me. Not so with NIN. They're instantly likeable, I'd even say loveable, if that weren't the most inappropriate word for this kind of music! Fact ... Read More:

So, about a year ago, I bought a Zune for when I work out, and quickly realized that the 15 gigs I downloaded off my CDs were all bands from the 70's or early 80's and the music they're still doing; a very little bit of rap, but nothing from the last 2 decades. So I had heard White Stripes on the radio, and bought Icky Stomp, and that led me to buying the rest of White Stripes cd's, most of which are great, So when I saw that Jack White is past of Raconteurs, I bought them and really like this album a lot.
The punchline is that I was shopping in Safeway, and they were playing White Stripes on the sound system there. So much for being hip! But, what the heck---I do like th music, and I enjoy it.

While more polished (think produced) than previous offerings, The Crane Wife still delights with Colin Meloy's signature voice and storytelling.

Saw FM live right before the relase of this album so it was interesting to hear the new songs over again being able to recognize them from the concert. Not thier best album, but unlike other reviews i like the "pollished" version, its easier for the non Molly fan to listen too, a good introduction and the clean recording mean that the message is loud and clear. and boy, what a message.

I've been listening to this album a lot lately and it's settling in -- in a really good way. It's nowhere near the ambition or energy of Ghost is Born, but it feels like a natural progression, and it's just a really good album. And I still call Wilco America's greatest living rock band.

I can't even tell you how many times I've purchased a movie soundtrack only to be disappointed by the mediocre (at best) collection. Before Garden State, I'm pretty sure the last soundtrack I bought was for Men in Black back in '97. Major disappointment there.
So when I locked onto the Garden State soundtrack, I wavered. I checked out the song clips on Amazon and decided to sit on it for awhile. But I couldn't get the clips out of my head. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to only know 30 seconds of a great song? So I finally gave in. I purchased the CD, and worried that somehow it was going to turn out like one of those movies where they show all the good parts in the preview.
Several years later and this album is still among my Top 10 most played albums. ... Read More:

OCTOBER has some real stand out tracks on it; I'm enjoying them more than ever before. In fact, i haven't listened to this album in decades until now, and I am surprised how much I love a lot of the songs. Perhaps in part due to how much better the music sounds than it did on my original vinyl and CD. The same team that re-mastered JT and BOY, and WAR, Arnie Acosta and Cheryl Engels at Bernie Grundman Mastering, did this one, and they did a wonderful job, IMO. Not too loud, thank goodness, and really open and clear, and with details I never noticed before.
This is my favorite bonus CD so far, because I love all the live performances. It is great fun to compare the live versions of songs to their studio counterparts. And, as all have already said, how cool to have all the singles ... Read More:
