This excellent album contains eighteen songs that were popular during the WW2 years. The album starts with that well-known hit Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (performed by The Andrews Sisters), and then moves between jazzy hits (such as G.I. Jive and Yours). I really enjoyed hearing again some of the songs that used to be so close to my father's heart, including Long Ago (And Far Away) and The White Cliffs of Dover.

I must say that I found this to be a very good album. I miss my GI father, who passed away a year ago, and I felt like I captured a little piece of him when I listened to the music he loved all those years ago. "It beautifully documents the mysterious wonders of Simone's rich voice and her quirky yet emotional phrasing." It's particularly nice that the collection includes so many "live" recordings since Nina was such an electric and inventive performer, almost always reinterpreting her songs in concert.

In addition, the box includes a DVD of an excellent 1970 documentary. It looks beautiful and it features some fantastic live material: a searching "I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel to Be Free)" and a heartbreaking "Don't You Pay Them No Mind." Do you like to listen to music on your Walkman as you take your daily stroll? Do you like background music during a nice dinner, or while you are reading? Do you enjoy lush harmonies? Then this recording is for you.
Do you want music you can analyze and categorize? Then pass this one up.
For me, the pluses of the disc: For the most part, the orchestrations support and complement the singers. The four part harmonies are delightful.
The minuses: It all sounds alike. Nothing on the recording reaches out and grabs your attention. "Unchained Melody" and "My Way" begin as if they are going to be different; then they quickly gravitate into the sameness.

I was introduced to Eva Cassidy's music about 5/6 years ago. As I have read in all the reviews, she has the most amazing voice ever. I tell that to people all the time. She is my alltime favorite and I listen to every kind of music. I so miss the part of never being able to see her live, in concert. What a JOY that would have been. I love all the songs on these two CDS, but my favorites are: Over the Rainbow, Fields of Gold, etc... I am probobly going to purchase the remaining CDs. I just purchased the book, "Songbird." I can't wait to read all about her life.

This DVD was just like being at a concert. It's beautifully shot and I loved every minute of every familiar song. I also especially appreciated the bonus features! This was one of the best purchases I've made in years.
