I ordered the recording and the score to see if I could break the code. Besides identifying each variation with one of Elgar's friends, is there something in the main motif itself? Like the digits of pi? Has anyone found the pattern?

A nice sampler. I bought it primarily for "Together, Forever" from Gypsy, though its nice to have the Broadway version of "Send in the Clowns (I believe by Glynis Johns). But it is just a sampler, and fans of Broadway music are probably better served buying the full original cast recordings.

Bernstein is truly a genius. This collection shows in a detailled and very didactic manner the best way to aproach the learning and enjoying of classic music.
In specially attonishing and breathtaking "The sound pf an Orchestra" "The Sonata form" "What is a Concert" and thos parts where Bernstain performs his pianistic parts showing himself as a virtuoso.
I allready conveyed my collection to those physicians in my hospital to whom I am conducting in the world of classic music.
But most important, I gather my grand sons to initiate them in Music with this great master, Leonard Bernstein and his Young People's Concerts.

Segovia is for purists. He's not a showman, but rather he's the most authentic performer of classical Spanish guitar that you will find. Holst: The Planets

Holst The Planets was a universal awakening for progressive rock musicians during the early 70's. Mars, the bringer of War turns up on King Crimson's The Devil's Triangle. Excerpts from Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity are found on NO OPPORTUNITY NECESSARY by Yes. The main melody is reproduced on Manfred Mann's Joybringer. The center section of Mars, Bringer of War is played by Lucifer's Friend on Summerdream. I have also heard snipets of Procol Harum and Univers Zero. I believe that David Bedford and Bernard Hermann were influenced as well. Holst the Planets is very educating and musicians have been studying the work for decades. John Williams compositions for the Star Wars Trilogy is the most common example of just how influential Holst really was. A great buy!

This is one of the best opera productions I've ever seen. It is so compelling. The singing is superb and the costuming is perfect. I thought it must be a recently recorded piece but was astoninshed to see that it was done in the seventies. I am thrilled to have it in my collection of opera on DVD. This is a fine reading of the lesser-appreciated Brandenburgs. While the 3rd is the "greatest hit" of the six, I think these last two are also beautiful in their own way.
Marriner sure has the Touch, and despite this performance being on modern and not period instruments, I prefer it to some of the more "faithful" BCs I've heard, mainly due to the heartfelt perfection of the playing. Bach was all about perfection, on many levels, and these guys bring home how incredibly layered and harmonically rich these pieces are.
Hard to pass up for five bucks.
