Tarantino always knows how to put a great soundtrack together for his movies and this one is no exception. He consistently introduces the listener to great music that they may have not heard otherwise. Although extremely ecclectic, just about every song seems to compliment each other instead of clashing. The only downside of this particular collection is the out-of-place contribution by The RZA with his silly "Ode to Oren Ishii." If it wasn't for this single track, then the CD would deserve 5 stars.

Okay, I was already determined to love this album when I found out that Renee Fleming stars in three of it's pieces. But Howard Shore truly does provide a gorgeous presentation of his musical talents. Keeping in mind that this is a movie track, and therefore, there is a lot of "incidental" music in this album. It's not always riveting without the action of the movie to complete the story. But that is a challenge every composer of film music faces.

Flemming is flawless, providing a straight-tone (no vibrato), eerie, airy sound in her performances to emphasize the other-worldly influence of this music. This soundtrack could have been great like the show, but instead, corners were cut. First of all, where is Don Cherry's Band of Gold? The Bobby Vinton track cuts off abruptly. Why couldn't a sexy track like Esquivel's Mucha Muchacha have been included as a tribute to Joan, the busty office manager? This soundtrack is a dud and the original score lacks luster !

I purchased this CD for my 78 yr old mother, a widow, who is getting remarried this Sept. and needed some recorded music to play before the ceremony and for the processional and recessional. She absolutely loves the CD and plays it over and over and over! It is a beautiful CD and I would highly recommend it for anyone needing this type of music.

I'm a fan of Elfman and all, and I'm glad he decided to return to his old-school sound, but come on, where are the themes? This cd is so hard to listen to because the music just sounds like random noise to me. There's nothing tying it together. Marco Beltrami's score for the first film was a lot better than this mess.

On a side note, the sound quality is excellent. But that's about it.
