I'm 39 now. My Mom used to listen to these albums when she was a teenager, and years later, she would to play them for me all the time when I was young. Instead of plopping me in front of the tv, we'd sit and listen and imagine Cosby on stage and we'd be laughing right along with the audience. I have been listening to them ever since. All these stories have held up wonderfully (no pun intended) after over 40 years. Bill Cosby is a master comedic story teller - and most of what he is telling is through real life experience.

I have several of Cosby's album's (I mean CD's!) on my iPod now, and it's hard to keep from chuckling in my work cubicle when a story like "The Chicken Heart" comes on...

You can hear elements of Appalachia (ala The Willies), string orchestrations (ala Unspeakable), ambient soundscapes (ala Floratone), great horn lines (Blues Dream), African jazz (ala the Intercontinentals) and quirky odd Friselldoms (ala The Rambler). Basically Bill has gone into his bag of tricks and combined the many magical things he can do into one dreamy CD. Charles Lloyd continues his musical (and spiritual) journey with a fine album as his group plays both for themselves and the listening audience. Not the warm groove of "Canto" or" Hymn to the Mother" but these are difficult times. There is an exquisiteness to his playing and the mix of sidemen is inspiring. Indeed many of the Lloyd alumni have gone on to fine careers of giving to us and the music.

I purchased this CD for my 78 yr old mother, a widow, who is getting remarried this Sept. and needed some recorded music to play before the ceremony and for the processional and recessional. She absolutely loves the CD and plays it over and over and over! It is a beautiful CD and I would highly recommend it for anyone needing this type of music.

Marcin Wasilewski belongs to the best of contemporary European Jazz. There exists a very lively and highly inspirated jazz-scene in Poland since a couple of years. The style of music Marcin Wasilewski performs with his trio, is a very special kind of impressionistic, esthetic Jazz, full of well-done harmonizations. The pieces of music "breath", as one could say. Virtuosity lets the music go, instead of opressing it. Espesially remarkable are, as so often, the compositions of Wasilewski himself like "The First Touch", "The Cat", the title piece of music "January" and "The Young and Cinema".
