Look at all the other reviews of this disc. They either say "I love Crosby, Stills, and Nash's music, so I love this" or they say "I love Stephen Stills' music, so I love this." But what would you say if you didn't already know this music from its later, more polished versions? You'd hear a good but occasionally sloppy guitarist singing folky, country-tinged songs, about half of them of very good quality. Some of these songs didn't show up in his later records for a good reason: they're dull. These demo versions of "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" and "Helplessly Hoping" are well worth a listen, but "Wooden Ships" has often been performed better.

This review is for the 2003 remastered version. I have owned the original CDs for The Last Waltz for years now. I just upgraded to the remastered version and the fidelity is incredible. It was well worth the money to get this concert on a CD on which the quality of the fidelity is equal to the music The Band and its musical guests performed at this Thanksgiving Day concert. It even makes up for the fact that I gave my tickets to The Last Waltz to a friend so I could keep a Thanksgiving dinner date with my Dad and his girlfriend. Oh well. Live and learn. 8-)

"Have I Told You Lately That I Loved You?" Van Morrison asked the question before Rod Stewart did, and it's good to hear him asking it again with all the Saints who asked it before him.

Absolutely love 80% of it. Favorites are 5:15 AM, Boom, like that, Song for Sonny Liston, Postcards from Paraguay and Don't crash the ambulance. Could do without the slower pieces, but I can listen to the whole CD once a day. So glad he does what he does. One CD every 18 months. Please keep it going, Mark. Would love to hear you do an entire CD with spanish guitar. Seems like you've mellowed over time and written better story songs, but your guitar riffs are what bring tears to my eyes. Wife is now a big fan and I'm working on the kids. They love your stuff too.

This is the first McMurtry album you should buy. It's got most of his classics performed perfectly. McMurtry's family literary humor shines through in "Choctaw Bingo" and "60 Acres", while his songwriting prowess is more clearly defined in "No More Buffalo" and "I'm not from here". Classic songs abound on this album. McMurtry covers Townes Van Zandt's beautiful "Rex's Blues", to close out an album filled to the brim with great live music, clocking in near 80 minutes. You really get your money's worth with this pick-up.

This singer is almost unknown here in Europe and this time it's a real MISS-OUT on something great. The rave reviews do not lie. Linda Ronstadt is here singing beautiful tunes from great songwriters (Paul Anka, Phil Everly, Hank Williams and James Taylor, to name a few) and the country/pop tunes are immensely helped by wonderful arrangements. Just the guitar solo in the middle of "The Dark End Of The Street" is a reason enough to get this album. They say she has never surpassed "Heart Like a Wheel" with any other work. They're probably right. Maybe only Joni Mitchell with "Court and Spark" made something equally great in 1974.

The first four superb cuts of Identity Crisis fairly showcase the musical breadth of what Shelby Lynne is about here. Telephone is a rueful bluesy swagger. 10 Rocks uses a gospel chorus to chronicle permanent loss. If I Were Smart is a ballad on the perils of the heart, and the rousing Gotta Be Better in its arrangement if not its lyrics maintains that things can brighten, but maybe only on the other side. Later in the CD, Lonesome is a country weeper that Patsy Cline would have been proud to own. Thematically, though, while it has its occasional moments of peace and rest (I Will Stay, Baby and the beautiful final cut One With the Sun), Identity Crisis mostly showcases relationships in decline or failure. You don't want to be there in all this hurt, but Shelby ... Read More:

Liege and Lief continues to be my all time favourite album of all time!! The album came out in my senior year and since then I've worn out albums, 8 tracks and cassettes!

It seems very rare over the past few decades that any group actually is able to follow-up a great album with another great one, but DTB has pulled it off. Not to mention that they are making music in a niche that they more or less created.
I've listened to the album a few times already and I'm still not sure I'm ready to say that it's better than the last album, Life's a Ride, but I have a feeling I will eventually rank this album higher. This album is produced almost to perfection - there are a few background vocals I could do without but no major complaints there. With 13 songs on the album I can honestly say there is not a bad song on the album (Jeb pushes the limits with his songwriting, and even with his singing on "Blue Eyes" but it's enjoyable when you listen ...
