The Future being Cohens 1992 release is nothing short of a stroke of genius. It starts out with a bang with the track The future. Cohen is such a talented lyrcist that I consider it to be the perfect mix between poetry and music. His vocals are as solid as ever before. The book-let is very interesting. On the cover we have a bird, a heart and a pair of handcuffs. It contains both lyrics and also a list of who played and what instruments they used. Sharon Robinson once again is collaborating with Cohen and as I written before I think this is a such an amazing combination. Waiting for the Miracle is my favorite track. This track is pure gold!

The artist Jewel is really a country- pop crossover, sent in several years after its actual 19994 release to clean up MTV and be the main American-Euro rock star. Her material here is incredibly simple, not even basic folk music. A following release This Way just defined country, but this here is the major label debut. I like it, not love it, This Way is much better, it just defined country.

This double album is representative of V.M.'s best recent stuff. The fact that the sublime "Shenandoah" and "Meet Me in the Indian Summer" (Orchestral version) are included is alone worth the price of purchase. I've probably listened to Shenandoah 30 times already; it's a soul-stirring beauty of a song.

Shot of Love is a great cd with many interesting songs. I love 'In the Summertime,' 'Property of Jesus,' 'Shot of Love,' 'Every Grain of Sand,'
'Heart of Mine' and all the other songs. In my opinion this is a must have for any Bob Dylan collection. This cd rocks!

When I was young, this album had an enormous impact on my life. While enduring a love affair gone horribly wrong, somehow these songs gave me comfort, strength, and inspired me to simply endure what felt like the end of the world. Oh, I ate and ate and ate, until I could not eat another plate. Have I had enough my Lord? Far from being the music of suicides, I think this album helped me to avoid the noose. I think it was through Cohen that I discovered the tradition depicted by St John of the Cross in "The Dark Night of the Soul". Loss, pain, and suffering puts one's character into a crucible. Like Jesus, Nick Drake is a "resurrected musician" with terrific guitar sensibility who unfortunately died while young in the early 70s, perhaps of a drug overdose, perhaps suicide (it's unclear.) He was re-discovered, posthumously, by an advertising person who played his music in an excellent Volkswagen ad. While Drake has a wonderful gift for creating beautiful guitar sounds through open-tunings and off-beat tempos, his writing is lackluster and imagistic and often melancholy, somewhat blurry. His singing voice is high-pitched, unusual, with overtones of American Indian religious chanting. So Drake is on the verge of singer-songwriter excellence, in my view, but not quite there. An Evening With John Denver (2CD)

My husband and I love this album! My mom has always loved John Denver and she recommended this album to me when I told her that our 'The Best of John Denver' cd was too scratched to play and my husband was sad. (I bought a replacement for that album too because I really like his older voice singing the songs). Now that I have listened to these discs many times already, I recognize it from my childhood when my mom would play it on vinyl. I loved 'Grandma's Feather Bed' and so many others. My mom asked me to buy this set for her birthday because she hasn't listened to it in years. (I think she's a little jealous). hee hee
