this DVD is so inspiring and enlightening that it is like going to church yet without the dogma. I was unaware of the depth of cohen's work and view it again when I need a spirit lift or a connection with reality. What a genius!

It seems like nowadays when an artist is featured on the VH1 You Oughta Know tour, they eventually turn into the next big thing (ask James Blunt or Sara Bareilles). But one person that didn't really garner any more popularity is Alison Sudol, better known as A Fine Frenzy -- which is also ironic considering her and Sara's respective albums were released on the same day. And Alison's lack of popularity is unfortunate because her album One Cell in the Sea is damn good.

Alison seems to score best with heartbreak tracks, as shown by "Ashes and Wine" and especially the single "Almost Lover". But introspective tracks score as well, like "Whisper", "The Minnow & the Trout" (the song that inspired the album's title) and the metaphoric "Rangers". ... Read More:

With or without Alison Krauss Dan Tyminski is one of,if not the best bluegrass artists today,
This cd is his best to date, not a bad track on it,in fact I would give each and every track 5 stars.
The opening track "Wheels" gets you in the bluegrass mood and it never lets you down. Also included is the track "It All Comes Down To You", if you recall Dan sang this song on the "New Favorite" cd with Union Station and I think this version has a bettet feel to it.
All in all a 5 star cd from a 5 star man (and band),not forgetting,Barry Bales,Adam Steffey,Ron Stewart and Justin Moses.
Plus you get Ron Block on 2 tracks, now that is a bonus.
If you are a Union Station fan this cd is for you.

If you love EmmyLou's great voice, then this collection is a "must own". Each disc is as great as the next. I get very tired of an artist when I try to listen to all three or four discs of a box set at one sitting. Not this compilation---kept my interest through all four discs in a row. Played all four again, and then once more the following day---I've never tried that before, and I do own some great box sets---Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Jefferson Airplane, Moody Blues, even the Stones---but they all tend to get a bit "long in the tooth" after awhile. EmmyLou manages to stay fresh the whole time.

I grew up listening to gordon lightfoot. my father taught himself to play guitar and sing by playing and singing gordon lightfoot songs. I know almost every single song he ever recorded, and love all of them. this CD is one of my favorites, and I have it on my ipod and listen to it quite often. I am 22 years old, born in 1985 and I am a huge gordon lightfoot fan. my sister and I will listen to it over and over perfectly content- she is a year and a half older than me. I may be one of his youngest fans, but I love him!

It seems hard to believe now both as to the performer as well as to what was being attempted that anyone would take umbrage at a performer using an electric guitar to tell a folk story (or any story for that matter). It is not necessary to go into all the details of what or what did not happen with Pete Seeger at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 to know that one should be glad, glad as hell, that Bob Dylan continued to listen to his own drummer and carry on a career based on electronic music.

I beg to differ with Amazon's review of this CD. I thought it was a wonderfully coherent set played and sung by two master musicians accompanied by their more-than-capable side men. What's not to like? The Amazon reviewer didn't find this CD ambitious enough, but I loved that the set was the kind of long, unbroken groove that one rarely finds on CD's these days--a set not of unrelated pieces, but comprising one, beautifully-crafted whole. That's my take. Enjoy!
