I suppose after the success of John Wesley Harding Bob Dylan thought going back to Nashville and recording another album was a good idea. I'm wondering if all these years later, if he still feels that way. I know the album was a commercial success, that "Lay Lady Lay" was a top ten hit as a forty-five, but, for me at least, there is something missing here. This is a happy record, recorded by a happy man. At least that's they way it seems to me and that's not the way I like to think of Dylan best. I see him as, if not a leader of his generation, a poet at least. I love the dark lyrics of his earlier work. Love the work that comes after "Nashville Skyline," well not all of it, but most of it.
The recording of "Girl from the North ... Read More:

I think somehow the listeners missed the point. It is a parody! Just relax and take it as it is: good parody, sucky music.

This is an outstanding 5 star concert dvd. It has a song set of 18 songs.
There are many allstar collabarating musicians throughout this concert dvd. These include: Tom Jones, Soloman Burke, Norah Jones, Buddy Guy, Chris Isaak, Ron Wood, Mergle Haggart, Ivan Neville, Kris Kristofferson, John Fogerty, Willie Nelson, Don Henley, Kid Rock, and Ken Lovelace. The performances are outstanding! Overall, this is good boogie-woogie Jam music and very enjoyable to kick-back and enjoy for a couple of hours. The "Killer" does his classics (Great Balls of Fire, Whole Lotta Shakin' Going on, etc.) and he performs other classic songs as well. He performs several Hank William's songs.
Some highlights, I liked included: "who will the next fool be" ... Read More:

Josh Ritter's lyrics and melodies make him, in my humble opinion, a more likely candidate for the new Dylan sound than even Bright Eyes. His music lacks a certain pretension other artists in the same eclectic genre maintain. I find his work wonderfully underproduced and beautifully crafted. I am never disappointed in the integrity of his work. Its the perfect music for watching the rain, roadtripping, or reflecting on the past.

Intense and powerful music. If you enjoy Cat Power check out Arrica Rose's music; particularly her newest album: La La Lost.

These ladies are wonderful. If you like the Be Good Tanyas, Gillian Welch, Diana Jones or beautiful voices in general: Buy this album.

Well, its not nearly as good as Until We Felt Red, and there are some really weak tracks like Pull Me Out Alive, which is really dumbed down and has a very simple structure, almost sounds like Tegan and Sarah or something. The music seems to lack the creativity of her previous efforts, and many of the instrumental songs sound underdeveloped, as in they come off as sections of a larger work that doesn't quite complete. The guitar work isn't nearly as interesting as her other records, with the exception of Air and Kilometers.
But that being said, its still not a horrible album, and it does grow on you a bit, so its worth a download. The best tracks are, Saving Days in a Frozen Head, and Air and Kilometers.

Pink Moon was dark as they come, but Five Leaves Left, despite others saying it is the most depressing of the three, or some other stuff, it's like an autumn morning. Or a dark night on the river. It's also longer, and features more than just the guitar. Nothing is as naked as Pink Moon, but Five Leaves Left is beautiful, and, if you have the ears, becomes apparent with the first seven seconds of The Thoughts of Mary Jane (though to me it seems about drugs).
Five Leaves Left takes me on a journey to the rivers, forests, star-filled sky, and sunsets (sometimes with a girl on my side, sometimes not). Drake's lyrics, as always, are filled with lyrics of hope , depression, life. Sometime, I really need to take a music based journey to the places ... Read More:

After listening Lucinda Williams' album West I became an instant fan and bought a couple of more CDs right away.
Car Wheels on a Gravel Road was nearly as good as West but somehow Sweet Old World appeared to be a bit too easy peace from an artist with this kind of talent. Lucinda Williams can do better.
Don't get me wrong. Sweet Old World is not a poor album. On the contrary. But many of the songs are just beautiful "traditional" tracks without the soul tearing spices of songs on album West.
