Nina Simone, Grace Slick, Tish Hinojosa...she evokes them all (at least in my ears).
A gorgeous album -- in turns delightful, hopeful, yearning, seductive, sincere...

'Guaranteed' is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It makes my heart ache every time I hear it. The instrumentals, the vocal, the lyrics, they just send me. I was never a big Pearl Jam fan through the nineties, so don't expect any accolades or comparisons here. I "googled" Eddie Vedder just to find out who he was. I recently rented the dvd and the music has haunted me every since then. I bought the cd and enjoyed listening to it tonight. The 'hidden' track came on while I was busy cooking dinner and I had left the cd in play. I might never have known about it otherwise. This cd is as long as it needs to be. I enjoy listening to several different cds during the course of the evening, and 'Into The Wild' definitely makes it into my ... Read More:

John Mellencamp's newest CD, "Life Death and Freedom" ended up being much better than I thought it would be. Wonderful instrumentals and song variety. The more I listen to them the more they grow on me. I was afraid some of the songs would be too slow, but they weren't. Five Stars!

I love this cd. If you like 'Oh brother where art thou' you'll like this. Very entertaining lyrics and I like to listen to it when I am cooking in the kitchen.

Matt's CD jumped out from a listening station. Several tracks jump out. "Wedding Dress" resonates with Matt's passionate vocals on a slower song with a thundering guitar arrangement, "Thought I lost you; Been jealous of the moon for how it moves the waves." The acoustic "Bulletproof Weeks" scores another impassioned vocal, "What happened to feeling cheap radio song? What happened to thinking the world was flat? What happened to that?" "To the Beat of Our Noisy Hearts" has a catchy chorus and a driving instrumental attack with electric guitar and Jason McGerr's punchy drums. "Detroit Waves" is another pop blast with a riotous guitar storm and Nathanson's vocals, "...I was only there long enough to disappear." "Some Mad Hope" is a strong disc with ... Read More:

This soundtrack is nothing short of a cultural revival. If it took a wonderful movie and its soundtrack to bring this music back to the forefront and garner the attention it received and deserves, so be it.
What better way could there be to reintroduce such wonderful music? At the moment I can't think of any.
Like many have said before there's not a bad track. This soundtrack is full of surprises and rich nuances that make it a joy to listen to over and over again.
Even if you haven't seen the movie this soundtrack is worth getting.

First of all, thank you VERY MUCH to the reviewer(s) that mentioned the disparity between the U.S. and European releases. Having this in mind, I went to the Amazon UK website and purchased this CD there. It cost more once you converted over to U.S. dollars, but you get both CDs with the complete 19 tracks. Very helpful information!!
As I read on here, the Bosendorfer sounds different than what I'm used to, but it WAS the way she sounded back then on her recordings. While I've heard most if not all of these versions at one point over my long Tori following, this compilation is very welcome indeed. I too have lost a great deal interest in Tori's new music, so I welcome this CD to my vast Tori collection. I'd say avid Tori fans will be pleased ... Read More:

On his new album Last Days at the Lodge, Amos Lee plays it all close to the chest. The melodies sound familiar, the lyrics sound familiar, and it all sounds like Lee is only half-interested in the songs he's singing. Many of the songs just sound tired and old hat. There are some exceptions, and his voice is still magnificent. I personally liked the songs Won't Let Me Go, and Kid, which is simple but inspiring. Overall, however, the album left me wanting more and missing his previous album, Supply and Demand.

This album celebrates 40 years in the record business for Taj. I bought his first album, which I still play and enjoy, and this new one is a wonderful record that is full of variety - blues, reggae, world music, acoustic, electric and includes guests like Los Lobos, Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. Apparently it's Taj's first release of new material for five years and he certainly sounds refreshed and raring to go.
We get off to a great start with Slim Harpo's "Scratch my back" done Stax style with the Phantom Blues Band, who also close the album in similar style with the Willie Dixon/Captain Beefheart song "Diddy Wah Diddy". Jack Johnson guests on Taj's own "Further on down the road" but doesn't really add a great deal, whereas Ben Harper and Ziggy Marley ... Read More:
