I went to a Kingston Trio concert recently and really enjoyed it, which motivated me to buy this CD. My four year old grandson also really likes it. The only downside is that he keeps wanting to sing "Charlie on the MTA" even though I have a terrible voice.

"My Blueberry Nights" is a strong soundtrack collection. Norah Jones who stars in the film wrote the song "The Story" on set, which was included in the film. She sings, "I don't know how to begin because the story has been told before; I will sing along, I suppose it's just how it goes." Director Kar Wai explains in the liner notes that he went to music stores and bought CDs that were played on the stereo on cross country trips which scouted locations for the film. He loved Cat Power's CD The Greatest and included that title track and "Living Proof" from the CD on the soundtrack. Cassandra Wilson's recording of Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" was another track that he put together with a slide show from the road trips to help Norah Young get a feel ... Read More:

They are Feisty, have a Zest for life and have blended different kinds of music into one big original sound. Their lyrics are not too shabby, not shabby at all. Have to say that I am very happy knowing this band and own two of their albums, this one and I forgot the name for the one they released after. Both very good purchases. They are original and that counts for a lot of my respect. When they get going is a brilliant display of talent. These guys are the real deal, worth every dollar. Highly entertaining and their message is one that screams: Enjoy Life, Enjoy Music and it will all work out for the better. 4 shinning stars for Gogol Bordello /Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike! Hot Band!

Liege and Lief continues to be my all time favourite album of all time!! The album came out in my senior year and since then I've worn out albums, 8 tracks and cassettes!

It seems very rare over the past few decades that any group actually is able to follow-up a great album with another great one, but DTB has pulled it off. Not to mention that they are making music in a niche that they more or less created.
I've listened to the album a few times already and I'm still not sure I'm ready to say that it's better than the last album, Life's a Ride, but I have a feeling I will eventually rank this album higher. This album is produced almost to perfection - there are a few background vocals I could do without but no major complaints there. With 13 songs on the album I can honestly say there is not a bad song on the album (Jeb pushes the limits with his songwriting, and even with his singing on "Blue Eyes" but it's enjoyable ... For those of you who are concerned about the drift of America over the last several decades, this album is the soundtrack of our country's descent. When Cohen sings, "I have seen the future. It is murder," he is talking about the arc through which we are falling. The poet says what the rest of us somehow sense but can't quite verbalize. Imagine Cohen in 1930s Germany. Except he is talking about us here in America, now, where we are and where we are going. "I have seen the future. It is murder." The rest of the album is pretty good too. "Charlie Manson, the white man dancing." All the way to the White House.
Release Date April 24, 2007
Like all Cohen's early albums, Songs of Love & Hate has grown in stature down the years. Other singers seem to like the songs more than Cohen does; for the collection that he compiled, Essential Leonard Cohen, he selected only one track from this album, Famous Blue Raincoat. Among those who highly esteem Songs of Love and Hate is Jennifer Warnes who covers Famous Blue Raincoat on her album of the same name which also contains a duet with Cohen on a longer version of Joan of Arc.
The Handsome Family interprets the same song on the soundtrack album Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man whilst Tori Amos performs it on Tower of Song:The Songs of Leonard Cohen. Famous Blue Raincoat is a great favorite, as Judy Collins included it on her Cohen tribute album along with Dress ... Read More:

In reviewing Bob Dylan's 1965 classic album Bringing All Back Home (you know, the one where he went electric) I noted that it seemed hard to believe now that both as to the performer as well as to what was being attempted that anyone would take umbrage at a performer using an electric guitar to tell a folk story (or any story for that matter). I further pointed out that it is not necessary to go into all the details of what or what did not happen with Pete Seeger at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 to know that one should be glad, glad as hell, that Bob Dylan continued to listen to his own drummer and carry on a career based on electronic music.
Others have, endlessly, gone on about Bob Dylan's role as the voice of his generation (and mine), his lyrics and what they do ... Read More:
