Fans of the rocker Sheryl Crow now have a fine opportunity to listen to and view her without paying high ticket prices with the lively capture of her performance at the one-night-only Soundstage. Cuts of her biggest and best songs accompany a high-definition 92-minute performance in surround sound for maximum home entertainment effects. Very highly recommended, indeed!

I'm familiar with some of Kate Rusby's earlier music because she gets airplay, from time to time, on BBC radio folk music programmes - but this is her only album that I have. 'Awkward Annie' seems to follow an established pattern - a seamless mix of self-penned original songs and traditional songs from the British Isles.
THE VOCALS : KR's voice is difficult to describe (but I'll try). If you took away the American accent and country twang from Dolly Parton's vocals, and replaced it with a decidedly Yorkshire-English accent, you'd get something which comes close to KR's vocal style (listen to how she pronounces words like 'come', 'money', or 'love'). Depending upon the song, her vocals oscillate between dainty delicacy and haunting poignancy. As ... Read More:

I saw the movie "Once" in the afternoon. The minute it was over I was heading to the record store for the sound track. It is amazing. I cannot get enough of Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova and now the Frames. The music is beautiful, the lyrics telling, the melody compelling. Like I said I cannot get enough.

I suppose after the success of John Wesley Harding Bob Dylan thought going back to Nashville and recording another album was a good idea. I'm wondering if all these years later, if he still feels that way. I know the album was a commercial success, that "Lay Lady Lay" was a top ten hit as a forty-five, but, for me at least, there is something missing here. This is a happy record, recorded by a happy man. At least that's they way it seems to me and that's not the way I like to think of Dylan best. I see him as, if not a leader of his generation, a poet at least. I love the dark lyrics of his earlier work. Love the work that comes after "Nashville Skyline," well not all of it, but most of it.
The recording of "Girl from the North Country" with Johnny ... Read More:

Admittedly, I'm not a music expert. But I know what I like, and this is not it. It's about as ugly as music can get. Didn't enjoy it at all.

I'm a country girl, and have grown up with Bluegrass, but I'm not crazy about much of the genre's artists. But these kids are amazing. The virtuosic playing between vocal tracks is thrilling and makes you want to get up and dance around the room! And then the vocal tracks bring something brand new. It's not bluegrass, it's not even country. It's just good contemporary harmonies, great songwriting, and something the listener can relate to.
If you like country, get this album. If you like bluegrass, DEFINITELY get this album. If you like folk, get this album. If you like acoustic rock, get this album. If you like new, refreshing music, get this album.

I have to say I'm really surprised that nobody else has complained about this but I felt the camera cuts were OBNOXIOUSLY frequent to the point that I honestly can't watch the dvd. It sounds ridiculous but I actually recorded the audio into my computer so I can just listen to the concert. The camera cuts to a different performer an average of once every bar through the entire concert and it is common as the intensity picks up for the camera to cut as frequently as every beat. We have to be talking thousands of cuts over the length of the performance. Do we need this? I think the average jazz fan has a longer attention span than most; why do producers always feel the need to "inject" excitement into live music dvd's when the good performers (like these guys) can do that ... The nice thing about music by Jon McLaughlin is people can relate to it. Also, it doesn't hurt that he has a very nice voice, that sings either fun and catchy tunes or slow and sultry. I enjoy the cd very much and I thought Amazon has a great deal with two cds with a video on it. I was very pleased with my order.
