James Taylor and his absolutely KILLER Band tear the roof off of the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Not an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination. What is even more incredible is the fact that longtime JT drummer Carlos Vega, committed suicide the week before this show was taped. Carlos was an incredible talent and may he rest in peace. JT called on an old friend who was definitely up for the task of learning the 30+ song set. Mr. Steve Jordan does a marvelous job with all of JT's classics as well as his newer material. His band is top notch as well! Buy this DVD, you won't be dissappointed!!!

I'm one of Mark Knopfler's biggest fans(and have been since i first heard "Sultans Of Swing" back in '78) and I have to say that I don't think he's ever put out an album better than this one. It amazes me from first song to last. As ever, he writes stories, not just throwaway lyrics to support the melody.A couple of good examples here---The title track wherein he teaches all of us a little about American history(the two men who mapped out the Mason-Dixon Line) and the one describing a mail order bride and her pioneer husband starting a new life together. Start to finish an amazing piece of work worthy of his prodigious songwriting talent.

ok, I'm editing this review because I feel bad giving them such a hard time. About five songs are really good. The rest was just weepy without being very interesting.
Compared to other bands it's an ok album, just not nearly as good as "Four Thieves Gone" and "Mignonette". They loose a lot of their raw edge and punk-y-ness. Sentimental gives way to sappy here. There is nothing gripping in the sound here either.
What happened to those bluegrass-y punks that screamed and yelled through their songs and made me feel like I was drinkin' in the back of a truck, driving in the country while my friends (and I) rock on guitars and banjos?
I don't even want to play this one for friends - I used to show off ... Read More:

This is my first purchase of a Catpower CD. I choose this one given its good reviews. In general, I like the CD. It is extremely mellow and, overall, the songs sound nothing like the origials. I recommend listening to the song samples if you are unsure about purchasing the CD.

This is wonderful. "Us" is a perfect song. One that you hear 20 years later and realize that it is a classic. But there are other great songs too. "Ghost of Corporate Futures" and "Poor little rich Boy" are my favorites.
She captures something real in "Carbon Monoxide" and "Chemo Limo". Buy everything you can find from Regina.

Although I have been a devoted LC fan for many years, truth be told there is a lot of his music I don't listen to regularly. Not so with this CD. Ever since it came out, I have found Ten New Songs a constant and steadfast companion: It provides comfort in dark times, and a muted celebratory vibe for good, quiet times. While I was (like so many) put off by the production of this CD (recorded without a proper band and the use of a drum machine), I've decided that none of this matters at all or detracts from its wondrous beauty. As others have said, this CD contains almost uniformly great, great songwriting (except for "That Don't Make it Junk" which I have never been able to completely embrace). Moreover, colloborator Sharon Robinson's vocals are absolutely ... Read More:

I can assume that I am one of many that hadn't heard of Kimya Dawson until Juno, and "Remember That I Love You" features most of the songs she contributed to the soundtrack. I expected that these songs would all be the standouts, and though Loose Lips is possibly still the best song on the album with a catchy-as-hell chorus and cheery tune, the whole album is strong start to finish.
I'm usually one to go for punk, hardcore, metal and the like, but the fact that this is acoustic and more pop than the Moldy Peaches wasn't a factor - I enjoyed especially "My Mom", "Underground" and "I Like Giants", as well as Tire Swing, Loose Lips and the full version of My Rollercoaster, which even features a little Metallica reference.

All of Leonard Cohen's early albums are truly masterpieces unto themselves, and a few of his later releases are also contenders. I would unabashedly endorse "Songs of Leonard Cohen", "Songs from a Room", "New Skin for the Old Ceremony", and this album, quite possibly the finest of them all. Each of these albums features a perfect combination of rich and poetic lyrics, understated and masterful musical accompaniment, and excellent production values (now highlighted by an excellent remastering).
"Songs of Love and Hate" is definitely the darkest of the aforementioned albums, which means it is not to be played casually, and that one must be in the right mood to give it their whole-hearted attention. When these circumstances arise, this album can be totally devastating ... Read More:
