Pete Seeger's Greatest Hits is a collection of songs that were sung in the 60's. Listening to the album brought me back to a time of hope for a kinder, fairer world. Some songs were serious and some were just fun.

I have to say that Tim O'Brien's album is a bit of a chameleon. The use of antique instruments led me to think the music would have a bit of a historical flare a la Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Seesions, but not really. O'Brien's album had more of a modern folk quality mostly due to the lyrics which taken on the current political and cultural climate at times.
I also found Tim O'Brien to have a voice that isn't at all unlike Jimmy Buffett's. That isn't a bad thing, but it led my mind to expect more Jimmy Buffett like music than Tim O'Brien.
Thus, I think the Chameleon title comes through. Never-the-less, Tim O'Brien does have talent. Get past the pre-listening expectations and initial listen expectations, the song writing ... Read More:

If you painted pictures from these songs, they'd be in starkest black and white with splashes of red. The music itself is stark--just Bruce singing with his guitar and a harmonica howling sharp.
The title track is probably one of the scariest songs I have ever heard. The opening lyrics will make your hair stand up on end:
"I saw her standin' on her front lawn just twirlin' her baton
Me and her went for a ride sir and ten innocent people died"
If Bruce isn't talking killers, he's talking cops. In "Highway Patrolman", Sgt Joe Roberts has got to put up with family trouble:
"Now ever since we was young kids it's been the same come down
I get a call over the radio Franky's in trouble downtown ... Read More:

This album is very good example of talent of Andy McKee. He has fantastic skills of handling acustiq guitars. Take this album and you will not regret.

I preordered this CD. I just listen to it for the second time. This is satire at it's most boring. Don't bother with this CD. Ry has done much more interesting stuff, both lyrically and musically. Listen to the samples before you buy. I wish I did. If you like what you hear ignore this and go with your own tastes but for me "yuck!"

Although mostly pop-oriented and tailormade for placement in the background of a primetime TV drama, this album also encompasses wisps of jazzy cabarets with a hint of the twang of Baylin's hometown of Nashville. Several singers spring to mind, notably Dusty Springfield, Phoebe Snow and Maria Muldaur along with numerous modern musicmakers -- an eclectic mix, to be sure. Tonally, Baylin's voice shares a familiar, bluesy white-girl rasp with that of Amy Whitehouse, although her music is decidedly much mellower. Spotting similarities with Norah Jones wouldn't be misplaced, either, since one of Baylin's songwriting partners is Jesse Harris, who is also one of Norah's crew. This is a fine record for "mature" music fans looking for something new that doesn't fit into ... Read More:
