Common has one of the most consistent discogs of any hip hop artist out there. The only perceived blemish is the experimental Electric Circus (which was all that bad in my opinion). Be comes right on the heels of Electric Circus which led to much speculation about whether or not he still has "it". He answers his critics in amazing fashion.

This album is produced chiefly by Kanye (9 of 11 tracks and 2 from J Dilla) and the pairing seems Be a match made in heaven. Kanye's samples give Be a soulful twinge that matches perfectly with his deep lyrics and soulful voice. This is most evident on the powerful song "The Corner". I absolutely love this CD. It's very mellow mixed with some reggae with a dash of hip hop. It is exactly what i need to relax to. The music of the Gorillaz has always been a favorite of mine, but D-Sides has some of their mixes along with a few new songs that are really good as well.

Don't Mess With The Dragon

If you're a fan of Ozomatli and someone who'd never heard of them asked you what genre they are, chances are you wouldn't be able to give him/her an answer (what their very name means is a head-scratcher). But their latest album Don't Mess with the Dragon is filled with great stuff.

"Can't Stop" is an ideal way to open the album because you indeed won't be able to stop playing the disc after that track. From there you'll find standouts like "Here We Go", "When I Close My Eyes" and the necessary tribute-to-your-hometown, "City of Angels". And an Ozomatli album wouldn't be complete without some Latin tunes, so "La Gallina" and "Violeta" are good examples of that.

hey as an R&B album or a soul album its really soothing to the mind and its a perfect relax potion, but ehh this is in no way Hip Hop Music or any form or rap. just please dont call this rap because thats just disrespectful. but back in 1993 it was funny to see KRSONE throw them off stage and take over LOL. but yea its a really good album to listen to when your tired or sleepy or sumthing but DONT CALL THIS HIP HOP! ill use this album when i need to fall asleep fast.

Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde

I have to say I haven't been a Pharcyde fan from the beginning. I first bought Labcabincalifornia when it came out...followed by Plain Rap. After hearing terms like "Classic" and "Must Have" I figured I'll go back and buy this album.

I'm going to go against the grain and say it's not one of my favorite albums. Maybe my expectations were too high. This album was different than what you normally heard coming out of the West Coast, and for that reason it's a "classic". But...I don't think it was up to par with it's east-coast counterparts. Titles such as "3 Feet High and Rising" (De La Soul), "Reachin" (Digable Planets) and Midnight Marauders (Tribe) handled the style more successfully.

This definately ranks high in the top Hip Hop albums of all time. All the cats that gew up with this '91 release, know what I'm talking about, but alot of Hip Hop youngsters now of days don't even know this album exists. It seems like most Mc's just hop on the mic to get a rep, and drop rough lyrics to make themselves look hard. I like the way this has a bouncy, loose, block party feel with smooth lyrics, but it doesn't come off soft, nor hard. It's stright up Hip Hip, how it SHOULD be done. Production wise, this blows 90% of ANY Hip Hop albums out of the water. Larg Pro's production is absolutely remarkable on this one.

This album is in my top ten ALL TIME, all types of music. I started listening to hip hop in 1987 and I remember the first time I listened to this album. It blew my mind with its creativity and innovative beats and rhymes. I recall one summer when I was in Israel and I would listen to the entire album every night before I fell asleep.

If you are a true head, buy it! De La is the truth!
