Release Date October 10, 1995
1995 was a huge year for Detroit underground rap duo Insane Clown Posse. Mainly because they released their 3rd LP entitled "Riddle Box". This album is their first to be released in stores nationwide, due to Psychopathic Records' brief distribution deal with Jive Records' short-lived phony label "Battery Records".
When I first heard this album, I was completely blown away. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope move away from gangsta rap and focus more on horrorcore. Violent J goes deeper in the depths of his infamous "sick storytelling rap". This is also the first album he uses his "squeaky" voice which he was once known for. Shaggy 2 Dope doesn't disappoint at all. In fact, he is nearly on par with J, although he doesn't tell stories as ... Read More:

Anyone who disagrees with my claim (the title of this review) obviosly hasn't heard this. My first introduction to Pete Rock was from the production he lent to other MC's (most notably; solo Wu Tang artist's, Rakim, Biggie, and Nas.) As time went on, I began to hear more, and more of his work. Then I finally heard the song T.R.O.Y off this album, and that was enough for me to order this. I'll never forget the day this showed up in the mail. I expected it to be good, but I wasn't prepared for HOW good. The first time I get an album I always listen to it all the way through, but usually I'll be tempted to skip atleast a few tracks, cause let's face it - very few albums are FLAWLESS. I was more and more amazed throughout this album as to how strong it ... Read More:

I got to hear this entire album played today on an online broadcast for a small radio station. Coming in in the middle, like the first listeners to Orson Welles's "War of the World's" broadcast, I must confess that I initially thought the fictional story of "Sister Fatima" -- over-layed like a local DJ's mix of news onto the album tracks -- to be a genuine retrospective of some real events -- that's how accurate the story was to similar aspects of our real-life world, at least in parts. (I caught on when the Governor who backed her execution in the storyline actually cared when he got caught).
What made this album move me was the accuracy in the portrayal of voices. The Sister Fatima's bravery reminded me so much of people I've admired -- friends and ... Read More:

This album is in my top ten ALL TIME, all types of music. I started listening to hip hop in 1987 and I remember the first time I listened to this album. It blew my mind with its creativity and innovative beats and rhymes. I recall one summer when I was in Israel and I would listen to the entire album every night before I fell asleep.
If you are a true head, buy it! De La is the truth!

Timeless is the best way I can describe this album. A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai with flows like rivers just tear up every beat. Every song on here is good. Some of the jazziest beats around mixed with some of the smoothest rhymes around makes for a timeless classic.

You know, normally I can't stand live albums. Let alone movies about live shows. The whole point of seeing a band live is to experience the moment. But, you already know that. So, buy this. It's worth it.
Release Date August 13, 1991
Cypress Hill's 1991 self titled debut is a very original, entertaining album the likes of which hip hop had never seen before. The group of Cuban MCs from Los Angeles had a style that was totally new to hip hop and proved to be pretty influential, and mostly from this album. "Cypress Hill" is full of weed smoking anthems, paranoid tales of ghetto violence, humor, and excellent production. The rappers B-Real and Sen Dog especially stand out, showing a distinct character from any other rappers in 1991. B-Real's high, nasal voice always sounds both funny and disturbed, and Sen's low gruff voice is the source of most of the yells and chants on the songs. DJ Muggs emerged on this album as one of rap's premier beatmakers, with a style as distinct and creatively original as the ... Read More:
