This album isn't De La's best but its damned good. I can't believe how everyone shouts out tracks from the album and nobody says a damn thing about Trying People... that track is so raw, I had to reeeeeeeeeeewind like 5 or 6 times. Pawn Star... come on that Porn beat is sick. The beats really make this album so if you can't feel em you aint gonna feel the album. I can respect quality when I hear that ish.... the perfect album to listen to when your tired of all this wack gangster fake pimp Dr Seus raps.
Release Date July 07, 1992
the best among these cuts is madonna's 'supernatural'. she was still doing that cheeky combo of latin beats and saucy lyrics. she also still had that tight, closed sound to her vocals that made her voice distinctive. damn that seth riggs for training her out of her style!
because this was a sony release and george michael was a sony contractee, he is the most featured artist on the disc. his contributions, save 'too funky' are not very memorable.
the remixes aren't bad, especially 'change' by lisa stansfield. but there would be more and better suprises with later red hot discs.

I'm going to take a different approach to reviewing albums on Amazon. Instead of going in depth on each album and describe each album in detail, i'm going to simply rate each album with how many stars I feel each album is worth based on the below criteria. I hope this helps you make a better decision on purchasing this album with a simple individual rating. If it doesn't help read another review.
5 stars- Classic, Album goes beyond description, Perfect in every way, Could remind you of a certain time or place, Lifetime replay value.
4.5 stars- Near Classic, Incredible album, Maybe only one song that is skippable or just overall doesn't quite deserve classic status. High replay value.
4.0 stars- Awesome album. Very solid album from ... Read More:

Aesop rock is so refreshing blah blah blah. There really isn't nothing else that haven't been said before, because we all know that today's commerical rap is ______. And oh yes, it's ______ true. Aesop Rock kicks a load of @$$ compared to soulja boy.
I think I'm going to keep this one a bit short. First off, just listen to the way this guy spits out rhymes. At times abstract, others concise and to the point. There's plenty of lines I can't figure out, but it's still compelling and fun to listen to. Love some of the insight that he gives on Save Yourself. Hip Hop isn't dead. It's just underground. It's a dead end to even try to save the airwaves from p diddy. I also like his delivery, even though at first I found his voice unappealing. ... Read More:

Feels like Cee is trying a little too hard to prove how multi-talented he is on here. There are a few standout tracks where he puts together an amazing rap or sings beautifully but the majority of this long solo disc feels overwrought lyrically and musically. Unfortunately in the sliding scale of hip-hop, an album like this stands far more unique then it ought.

Believe it or not, this was when I was first introduced to De La Soul when I was 14, when in mid 2000 came out with "Oooh!" with Redman. Back then I always thought of De La Soul as old school pioneers, and songs from this album solified them as legands in hip hop. Seven and a half years later, after hearing every album that came before this one, I saw the maturity that De La was picking up, as if they were going through another transition in their music careers.
If you were hating this because this was no Stakes Is High (an album I really didn't think was all that good), then you really need to have another listen. This album is very innotivate and creative. Not as creative as their 1991 classic De La Soul Is Dead, but creativity still floats all around ... Read More:

A really great album. K-os has a wonderful vocabulary which shows in his lines. Words and rhymes don't seem forced or lame. It truly seems that in every line he is trying to tell us something

Coppola can either be credited with or blamed for my decision to go to grad school (don't ask). I loved CHUPACABRA as well as AFRODITE. Now she shows that she still has a knack for being a little off center while being incredibly creative. I haven't gotten tired of this CD yet and I must listen to it at least three times a day.

In 1999, the horrorcore underground rap duo the Insane Clown Posse released their 5th studio LP "The Amazing Jeckel Brothers". And it's a great addition to their album stack.
This album is more rock fueled than their previous releases, but that only perfects the aggressive lyrics put into this album.
The style here is pinned on "anger". As the majority of the tracks are strong-worded, hatefilled anthems, whether it be directed at mainstream music or the world in general.
Violent J's rap style is progressing as the albums go by. On this album he dropped his squeeky voice which he used on "The Great Milenko". He uses a much better calm and less pitchy voice. His storytelling is great here as well. As for Shaggy 2 Dope, his style is the same as always, which ... Read More:

Just like others, when I saw the "Hot Damn" video by the Clipse and the "Frontin'" video with Pharrell and Jay-Z, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this. I remember buying it the sunday before it was supposed to come out. To tell you the truth, I wasn't very happy with this album.
Production is okay at best. Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo do a decent job keeping the production together, like as I mentioned earlier, the song "Frontin'". Also the Busta Rhymes song "Light Your [...] On Fire" carries a nice beat. But songs like "Popular Thug" with Nas and Kelis, and "Blaze Of Glory" is not what I expected from this duo.
The biggest problem on this album is the lyrics. Some of these artists sound like they wrote their rhymes on a bad day. The song "Blaze Of Glory" ... Read More:
