I discovered PT through a friend about 2 years ago. Since then, I have bought everything they have done since the "Lightbulb Sun" LP. I have also seen then perform live. BUY THIS CD !! Excellent song writing, and one of the world's greatest drummers, Gavin Harrison. If you like this one, also check out "In Absentia", my favorite of all Porcupine Tree LPs.

Greetings from Michigan: The Great Lake State

I recently bought a car and drove across the country with a friend, and as we entered the state of Michigan, he pulled out the Sufjan Stevens CD, with which I was not previously acquainted. What an amazing performance! This recording is a truly artistic endeavor - drawing on the inspirations of traditions ranging from rock to folk to minimalist art music, these songs are very original, heartfelt, beautiful, fun... the adjectives are never-ending. Driving through the state for the first time, this CD honestly impacted how I viewed my surroundings, and I thank it for that. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in hearing something new, something that once energetic and mellow.

This is one of those rare EPs that is almost better than the album that inspired it. It is comprised of 4 songs that were leftovers from the "Fear of a Blank Planet" album, and after listening you wonder how they could have been left off at all.

Heavy, dark, progressive and beautifully layered with soundscapes. One of PT's best. Highly recommended.

Battles are a math rock band. This stylistic genre is composed of only the finest of musicians (usually). Requiring a thorough in depth analysis of their instruments and true understandings as how to play synchronized with one another. Battles is on a strong progressive note here, and succeed in making some great off the walls music. The single "Atlas" is quite the oddity, the music feels 'outside the box'. Overall 'Mirrored' is one of my favorite albums, but some songs really seem to be lacking in comparison to the first few tracks. Great Experimentation, great sounding electronics, very clean sounding production, nice drum, a full package! Battles are a band definitely worth checking out.

Another Green World

This 1975 album is my favorite of Eno's "rock" records and the contemplative, moody soundscapes really made it work for me. Overall, Another Green World presents a nice mixture of Eno's quirky pop tunes, gloomy instrumental tracks and a few instrumental pieces that feature some great playing by Phil Collins (Genesis, Brand X) and Percy Jones (Brand X).

Along with Brian Eno (guitars, synthesizers, electronic effects, keyboards, percussion and vocals), the personnel listing on this excellent 1975 release includes a few prog luminaries such as Phil Collins (drums and percussion), Percy Jones (fretless electric bass) - they play on two vaguely jazz-rock flavored pieces including Sky Saw and Over Fire Island and a mood piece entitled Zawinul/Lava, while ... An album of this standing, if ever, rarely comes along. Animal Collective's Noah Lennox furthers his alter role as Panda Bear and boy are we ever glad he did. Call it experimental, far-outlandish or even psychedelic if you will. The sheer truth is that "Person Pitch" is genius. Intoxicating and optimistic, it's almost spiritual! Maybe Portugal had some something to do with (Noah now resides in Libson, Portugal with his wife and daughter) who knows? What we do know is that the album is full of subtle surprises that reveal themselves with every listen; typical of Animal Collective, I know. But "Person Pitch" is truly in a class of it's own. Just to give a brief summary as to where I stand as a Björk fan before I dive in...I think her first two albums (Debut/Post) are both great records. Yet, she was a little more naive at the time and didn't have as much control creatively. But she was learning. With her next two releases, Homogenic and Vespertine, she began to break away from the poppy sounds of the first two and began to write (she began having more control over the writing), darker, bleaker records. So not only did she begin to define her sound and really become the unique artist she is, but they where also simply brilliant, amazing records. With Medulla she came up with an interesting concept, yet it was simply too hard to listen to in the context of a record. For me atleast.

Lovely music. Nice Indian flavor yet contemporary. Dreamy. Great addition to have Sting accompany on the one track. Ravi gets it going fast on his tracks. Love Karsh Kale on this.

You Forgot It in People

I just recently learned of this album, and have listened to it several times in the last few days, and am playing it now. I can't get enough of it. It's catchy as hell, fun, creative, and it rocks. What more can you want? While the songs are not without tension, it imparts to me a feeling of bliss like a carefree summer day, with its often breezy melodies and laid-back, jazzy instrumentation.

The only other BBS album I've heard so far is Feel Good Lost, which is nothing like this at all. I found that one to be on the boring/monotonous side, with very few vocals, so I would not be surprised that You Forgot It In People is an aberration like has been said in reviews here.
