I barely became aware of the release of this album in early 2008 (it came out in mid-2007). Yet, since I found out about it, it's become a fixture in my iTunes playlist. The ethereal sound of Harold Budd (one of the early creators of Ambient music along with Brian Eno) blends in impeccably with the guitar work of Robin Guthrie (of Cocteau Twins fame) to yield an album that you will indulge in time and again.
Along with the companion Before The Day Breaks, this is an album you will find yourself listening in times of trouble and in times of joy equally, non-intrusive music that you can work to and write to as much as you can mellow to.

something has been off for me with stereolab since marys death. i dont know why. i didnt know her, so it wasnt anything on a personal level. it was a certain charm, maybe?
after listening to this album multiple times, i do believe that the charm is back, there are still cerebral, challenging songs here, yes, but they are crisp, tight, short and amazing. yes, amazing. this is by FAR the most enjoyable stereolab release in years.
the strings, the hooks (all songs have at least one), the amazing sound, its all here. its all sterolab. this is a great album. i have been a fan for over a decade, and i do believe that this is the cd that i would recommend to beginners, and in time, might fall into my top choice myself. thanks, guys. love ... Usually music like this is found in movie soundtracks and the like. I could see this working for a Clint Eastwood western, or perhaps for No Country for Old Men. It's doomy and hypnotic at once. Very psychedelic, too.
But, above all, it's great music. Top notch work by fantastic musician visionaries. I've heard some of Earth's early work and I can say that they've come a long way from their origins.
Originally these fellas were making heavy, droning stuff, very much like the sound you'd get with Nirvana, only played through a terribly oppressive constant drone of sound, instead of a song with a chorus and melody. No, their early work was simply a guitar and bass guitar playing a wall of distorted, doomed, nerve scratching ... Read More:
Compellingly produced score for this relatively obscure birth/death doc of sorts will have little trouble finding it's way into intense Radiohead fans catalogues, not only because Jonny Greenwood is basically the unsung songwriting hero of the band who here is able to let loose and create a kind of unhinged Kid A, but also because we are witness to some of his convincingly arranged classical and jazz flirtations.

BRMC are the best of the newer bands around today. So just buy this now if you love rock music that is dark, loud and very very beautiful. This is their second release and as good as anything they have done before or since. All the potential from their first is realized here. Not a bad song on here. Half the record is a complete classic for the genre, the other is just extraordinary. Forget what you have heard about JMAC rip off's, false false false. This band is consistant, talented and are like no one else. Live they are the absolute finest. All the attitude of punk, all the musicianship of classic rock and all the melodies of english pop (stone roses, primal scream , new order et all). I urge you catch this band before they are gone. A must buy!

Porcupine Tree is one of the finest bands around and this cd, recorded during the Lightbulb Sun tour, delivers in a big way. First off the material for the recording was culled from a Polish radio broadcast with a specially invited studio audience and features the bulk of the "Lightbulb Sun" cd (recently re-released in a gorgeous remastered form/5.1 surround) as well as tracks from "Stupid Dream" and "Signify", for me three of their better recordings (although serious kudos have to go to "In Absentia", "Deadwing" and "Fear Of A Blank Planet" all fine recordings of their own especially thanks to Gavin Harrison's absolutely phenomenal drum work). The recording itself is crystalline and a big improvement on the sound rendered on "Coma Devine".
