ABBA from Sweden are the real kings and queens of rock & roll. The music of the 1970s became the music of the 1990s, and the ABBA revival was the tip of the spear. ABBA Gold went double platinum in the United States. More ABBA Gold and the box set, Thank You For The Music, sold. Classics like Dancing Queen, Take A Chance On Me and Waterloo again rode the airwaves. ABBA books were published. VH1 featured ABBA The Movie.
ABBA sold 250 million records between 1972 and 1982. Nearly every country in the world bought ABBA. Only China, North Korea and Vietnam resisted. ABBA had nine number ones in Britain. Fernando to this day is the biggest selling record in the history of Australia's music business. The group toured the United States ... Read More:

Since the focus of this column is music, I won't dwell on supermodel singer Carla Bruni's recent marriage to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, because it's irrelevant to her recorded output -- at least so far. No Promises is Bruni's second album, an all-English setting of poetry by such icons as Yeats, Auden, Dickinson, and Parker. Given the introspective nature of these lyrics, it's no surprise that the album is a gossamer grab-bag of European air. Bruni's intimate vocals are mated with classical guitar, harmonica, cello, bass, and light percussion. For those given to reflecting slowly over turns of phrase, No Promises promises a provocative soundtrack. For the rest who wouldn't know subtlety if it whacked `em upside the head, No Promises promises ... Read More:

If like me you were slightly disappointed with 'Avant Que l'Ombre', then this album should make up for it.
I bought the Limited Edition (Digipak packaging) from Amazon France which has Amazon part no. ASIN: B001BSH10W as also listed on Amazon.com. This is the version made by Polydor (007531025) which has the 'Degenerations' video clip on the Enhanced CD.

I love this album. When I first bought it a few years ago I couldn't put it down. Although with the title song Barbie Girl it was a little embarrassing to purchase. But I love the Scandinavian sound reminiscent of Army of Lovers, Doctor Alban, and Ace of Base. And the play between the two vocalists hasn't been this good since the Sugarcubes, of course in a different way. But most of the songs are good there are a couple that fall a little flat but this album comes highly recommended.

This was my first boy band album. I was about 14 years old and since then i never stop listening to them. My fav song on the album is "don't wanna lose you now" at the time I was going through my parents separation/divorce which killed me on the inside. And as a kid I wanted to do things to end it all but I learn to turn to music and writing. After all these years I still listen to that song because it best describe what i was going through during those days.Every day I kept it in my cd player on repeat. But now the cd crack into millions of pieces because i was trying to burn it.but over all i like the album.

Sorry folks, I'm mostly a metal guy.
After fifty years of hype, I was bored and picked this one up hoping to expand my musical tastes.
Um, didn't happen. Not till Ray of Light anyway.
The title track is the only decent song on the disc.
Every other song is manufactured pop drivel.
Pass.

A fun romp through most of their hits, this collection unfortunately shortchanges much of their later work in favor of their early successes. This makes sense in a way, especially for U.S. audiences who may have checked out after "Crash! Boom! Bang" and aren't familiar with their later albums, especially since you could only buy those as imports. But for the world at large, who kept up with the Swedish duo, there are simply too many singles to fit on one disc (hence the Ballad and Pop Hits compilatons they released a few years back). Yes, it's called "20 Greatest Songs", but what constitutes that is up for debate. In my opinion, this works best for newbies and those U.S fans who only want the songs they remember and a few they don't. As for the new cuts, they're nice ... Read More:
