I love this guy... a story teller, a poet, a singer. Get Melody Nelson. And check out his talented daughter's (Charlotte Gainsbourg) work in film (Science of Sleep; Jane Eyre) and on disc (5:55).

I got this CD a few years ago after reading a review of it in a magazine -- not realizing that all CDs reviewed in mainstream magazines are same-sounding hipster life soundtracks. (When did this become the only music it was cool to like?)
That said, having left it on the shelf for a long time, I put Howl Howl Gaff Gaff onto my iPod for one last listen to determine whether or not to chuck it out, and came to really like a lot of the songs. It's the perfect kind of music for listening to alone, with headphones, while wandering around a big city, so if you're a portable music person, this could be for you.

Jens Lekman's music is eclectic and fun. It is reminiscent of other musical greats, but entirely original all at the same time. The lyrics make no sense in the same way that thoughts often flow in a somewhat random and unordered manner.
My favorite song on this track is A Postcard to Nina which tells the story of Jens and his penpal Nina. Nina is afraid to tell her father she is a lesbian, so she tells her father that she is dating Jens. The story is funny, original and tackles a subject not often broached in mainstream music.

This a great introduction to Eros, but it is not a greatest hits album. Typically a GH album takes the best songs from previous albums and puts them on one CD. Most of the Eros songs in this collection are re-recorded. So if you already have "Adesso Tu" on another CD this version is different. The same goes for most of the songs here. (I noticed that most of the songs from early on in his career are re-recorded versions.)
Regardless, it's a great collection. I like the alternate versions.

This is the best Jens Lekman album. I put him up with Bob Dylan at a young age with this release. It doesn't have the same pop sound as If I wanted to be your dog, but buy that album for Higher Power, You are the Light, and Tram #7. Those are the more upbeat songs on the album. This album also has Julie which is a sweet track, also on If I wanted to be your Dog. Great album. 5 stars.

I originally had bought this on cassette when it first came out. I listen to the songs now and realize that there are some really great songs here. You have big guitars of Joyride, hotblooded and Souldeep: the pop rock sound of Fading like a flower, Knocking on every door, Physical Fascination, and Things will never be the same; Acoustic ballads of Spending my time, Water colors in the rain, and Perfect day. The voice of singer Marie Fredriksson is in fine form throughout the CD. So if your a fan of their hit songs: "The look", "It must have been love", "Dressed for success" or "Listen to your heart" then check this out. You won't be disappointed.

The Seeds of Love is Tears for Fears' masterpiece. While their previous album (Songs from the Big Chair) gave the band a succession of memorable hit singles, The Seeds of Love shows Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal reaching their musical peak. Also worth noting is the inclusion of then unknown gospel singer Oleta Adams, whose soulful vocals added another great dimension to their sound. The song that everyone knows here is "Sowing the Seeds of Love", a brilliant track that may be the most complex hit single of recent times. From its Beatlesque arrangements and intelligent lyrics to the soaring vocals of both Orzabal and Smith, this, along with "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout", is among the best songs penned in the `80s. Just as impressive musically is the ... Read More:

Singer, songwriter, filmmaker, poet, and provocateur, Serge Gainsbourg was a chain-smoking French icon. Best known only for his heavy-breathing hit, "Je T'Aime, Moi Non Plus" (recorded with his muse, Jane Birkin, who simulated an orgasm on the song), a recent series of "Best of" compilation discs will hopefully give Gainsbourg the worldwide posthumous recognition he always deserved while he was alive. Gainsbourg's music is a fusion of classical, ballads, chanson, jazz, kitsch, mambo, pop (in all its forms), bossa nova, rock, reggae, disco, erotic, downtempo chillout lounge, and hip-hop. His lyrics were clever exercises in Franglais triple-entendres. He lived the life of cigarettes, alcohol, and seduction depicted in his songs. While this thirteen-track 2006 compilation disc ... I really like this album by Frida, all of the songs are very good, much to my surprise. I got it mostly for "Something's Going On", but found that the other songs are good, too. Very good solo effort by Frida, her best! She has the voice of an angel.
