This is a very well produced album with some real creative spirit. The instruments they use are basically antiques, but this is not a gimick - it seem to lend a smooth undercurrent to the vocals. I can pick out influences of Daft Punk, Kraftwerk, but not quite as experimental for experiment's sake.. The album's a few years old now but the sound is much older, almost new wave. I'm sure I'm not the only one with a tough time classifying this - and that's a good thing.

I've been listening to the new Boards of Canada album, and while I love it, my feelings and thoughts are somewhat mixed.
While on many levels, it's their strongest work to date - breaking out of the more artificial background of groundbreaking electronica that was their first and previous albums, the guitar/acoustic-based approach to IDM is truly the absolute best possible direction they could have contemplated going-
at a time when many, like myself, grow to resent the somewhat hollow artifice of many electronic artists (bola, for example- while wonderful, I do crave a bit of organic material mixed in with the beats and loops), BOC are taking their art to the next level-

After a lot of buzz and expectations for this CD, i got really disappointed when i heard it. Most of the songs are just average, the concept is OK, the mixing is nice but overall this is not a CD that will trill you, not at all. You can find several albums with this type of atmosphere and with more substance.

This double CD of hits before and during my time is suitable for listening pleasures be it solo or social. Artists like Brick, Oliver Cheatham, and Vaughn Mason truly add quality to the CD and unless you have a hole in your sole, you'll wanna dance all the way through each CD.

The day after I bought the US version of this excellent CD, I was lucky enough to find a cheap used copy of the original EU version on the Continentica Records label. It has two songs not available on the American edition (but does not have the US CD tracks "Travel in Time" and "Timeless"). The two import-version-only songs, "Someday" and "Se Meg," are both written by Kate, and are every bit as good as the rest of the songs on the CD. Buying the import for only those two songs, which add up to under 10 minutes, might seem crazy...but won't after you hear them.

There are so many good, relaxing tracks on here. I was blown away when I bought this cd. I had heard a few of the songs out and about in House Clubs, but the whole cd in it's entirety is fantastic and I encourage any downtempo music lover to get their hands on a copy if they get a chance. I cannot say enough good stuff about this cd.
