This album is incredibly unique, almost like a genre of its own. I'm unsuccessfully looking for other pieces of music that gives the same mood for years. Even if you don't like it, you should hear it once in your life.

This is definitely a good CD. It's hits from the Sugarhill Gang, whom many musical historians have designated as the first rappers. Or maybe it's that "Rapper's Delight" has been thought of as the first rap song? Rapper's Delight kicks off this album, and it's very catchy, chock full of creative lyrics [unlike today's swear-filled rap records] that make for a funny song. The full version, which is here, is very long. The rest of the disc shows itself very much a product of the times in which the songs were written, the early 80s. That's fine, but it's just that a number of the raps don't really have the flow I usually associate with rap. So the record ultimately didn't impress me enough for 5 stars. Good stuff tho, definitely worth 4.

I am so grateful to have found this album after a long search for new music with meaning! Not alot can be said for Ulrich Schnauss that other reviewers have not already said, But... this is really, really, REALLY good music and when i listen to it, it really stretches me energetically.

There is a real balance with this album. The slower pieces form a perfect symbiosis with the ecstatic highs. It really aids in repeative playing.

Other reviewers have commented on the delayed effects and echo, static etc in some tracks. My personal feeling about it - the intentional work of a genius!

Strangley Isolated places is the next on my ordering list!

Whether you're new to TC or just beginning to groove to them, this is a must have. Newbies, this will quickly make you a believer, and you'll find yourself collecting everything Thievery ever put their hands to, trust me. This CD boasts their trademark international groove sound, which is what makes TC soooo addictive. If you're not on the verge of whiplash from bopping your head to the ridiculously good beats, check your pulse.
I defy anyone out there to sit still while listening to this or any other TC offering- it ain't gonna happen. Even during the most "downtempo" numbers, you'll be so swept up in the groove that you'll start seat-dancing involuntarily. Have fun.

Angelic beautiful voice of Natalia Clavier. Good music. I would prefer more Spanish / Argentinean guitar (Federico Aubele where were you?). Very uneven recording quality. Bass kills her vocal. Lack of soundstage.

Can, while not as bizarre as a few of their contemporaries, Faust comes to mind - put together some astonishingly good rock with their talented Japanese lyrical improviser Damo Suzuki.

My favorite piece is "Oh Yeah" which opens with the sound of a thunderstorm, and the growing rhythm of the drums with organ overlay. The song is a rather long one, and goes through 3 shifts in sound, and subtle tensions. There's also a very fun video of it in YouTube replete with vaudeville style juggler.

the later part of the album has some more of the throbbing "experimental" aspects to it, with delayed instruments, and heavily distorted vocal bits. IT's very hypnotic and for some may be a bit unnerving.

This is a very well produced album with some real creative spirit. The instruments they use are basically antiques, but this is not a gimick - it seem to lend a smooth undercurrent to the vocals. I can pick out influences of Daft Punk, Kraftwerk, but not quite as experimental for experiment's sake.. The album's a few years old now but the sound is much older, almost new wave. I'm sure I'm not the only one with a tough time classifying this - and that's a good thing.

As an experienced meditator, I recommend this CD for both beginner and advanced meditation practice. Halpern's layer upon layer upon layer of deep reverberating "oooommmm" is very soothing and easy to respond to, whether you join in with your own voice or simply listen to the voices on the CD. This CD has become one of my favorites as of the second time I turned it on.

This is a pleasant CD and would be a worthy addition to your collection. I also bought Thursday Afternoon, and think that it is even better. Sometimes this CD is just the right thing. Recommended.
