All I have to say is, conscious rap is NECESSARY!!! KRS is my all time favorite MC, his message is tough to listen to if you're shrouded, but if you're truly awake to part or all of it, KRS's message is altogether positive. I appreciate his consistency in his music. There is nothing bad I can say about this album. How can you diss the truth? I know I can't.

Thanks KRS, I know you're just a man but you will forever hold a place in my consciousness!!! One love!!!

What can I say that countless other reviewers have not? If you consider yourself a true Hip Hop fan, you must have this album. Since I was only six when this album came out, I was introduced to rap by Eminem in High School. All I knew was what I heard on the radio until I started buying CDs. At one point I was in the music store and found two CDs at a good price: Illmatic - the platinum version and Get Rich or Die Tryin. I had to make a choice between the two. I made the right choice and picked Illmatic based on good reviews I read here on Amazon. At first I did not get the hype, it all went straight over my head. I was 17 when this album hit the market, and to me, it was the best album of the year; period. I enjoyed each and every track that is on this album. Masta Ace showed his chops as being one of the premier Mc's of the 90's on this album. This album is not a classic, it is an Opus. It does suck that Ace and the Inc. were not promoted the way they should have been, but his long lasting career is a testament to his dedication to his music.

We all wanna ball and we all wanna floss. Rocafella was that crew that showed us how to get that dough and how to do it in style. Jay, Dame, Biggs and the crew was doing it BIG. Loved the videos for all of VOL 1, especially Face Off (Redbones galore) and You Must Love Me.

Why oh why did the old Rapmasters series I used to rock in high school go out of print? Now that was classic old school hip hop compiled by people who lived through the era and knew from what they chose! This series is a mediocre substitute at best.

Granted, there are quite a few genuine classics on here...Wild Wild West, The Message, The Show, Paid in Full, etc. But there are also a few questionable selections...Ice Ice Baby? Really?!?

On the plus side, the curse words, etc., are not edited out on most of the songs on discs 1,2, & 4, and you do get to hear some of these classics as the artists originally intended. Capital Punishment

Big Punisher couldn't have such a great career, but at the same time, very short. Two years after releasing this album, he would later die of a heart attack. Pun was such a great lyricist that would be remembered along the east coast, with various hits like "Still Not A Player", and "You Came Up". Pun saw himself as one of the best Latino rappers here in the game, and with his debut he set out to prove that point.

Not a whole lot can be said, since everyone has covered every aspect of this album. My two cents are that some of the standouts are the best songs I've heard in a minute. Bigger and Deffer

This is is my favorite release by LL cool J besides the first album Radio. This album follows the same format of the first a lot of dope boom bap with one love song and one song about a girl. This version of LL is hungry, spits lyrics, and just isn't soft. The way he is spitting the lyrics and the way his voice sounds you can tell he was in the booth giving everything that he had to make the songs/album dope. That is the LL I know and love. The current LL that makes 90 percent of his albums love fluff with wack guest appearances is horrible. Even his love songs during this era are more hip hop than the one's he drops now. Ah well, if only he could return to the type of emcee he was on releases like this.

Nigga Please

I must say, Nigga Please is way better than Return to the 36 Chambers. 36 Chambers is a classic but ODB's cover of Rick James' "Cold Blooded" is off the chain. The whole album has a more bouncy element than 36 Chambers with more organic beats. ODB's penchant for wailing and hollering is amped up here too. The vulgarity is icing also! A must must must must for your vehicle!
