I agree that this is exactly where X went wrong. It's Dark And Hell Is Hot was a classic. Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood was a great follow up. While this album is not a complete write off it is forgettable just like X's later releases. the problem is that X is still recreating the same album with mixed results. This album does have some good joints though. One More Road To Cross was a pretty vivid story told by DMX over a hard beat. Party Up wasnt a bad second single even though that video was stupid as f***. Make A Move, What's My Name(first single) and D.X.L.(Hard White) are all bangers. D.X.L.(Hard White) feat The Lox and Drag-On is a classic collabo joint where all of them give dope verses. Fame goes in the honorable mention category. ... Read More:

For starters, I origonally gave this a 7, but when I heard this album again, I think its closer to an 8. Maybe a 7.5 out of 10 would be a better score for this album.

Consider this the album that launched Gang Starr into the position that they wanted to be in, back in late '90/early '91, even though their real debut was No More Mr. Nice Guy back in 1989. At the same time, they were still growing as a group, and neither have reached their peak yet (especially Permier's production). Knowing that, you're still going to get quality cuts on this album such as the great "Just To Get A Rep" single, and the bouncy "Check The Technique". You've got to love how every person who gives this album a mediocre review starts their review out with "Now nobody is a bigger ATCQ fan than me, but..."

That's your problem--this ISN'T a Tribe album!! Jeez, can't a brother do something new once in a while??

So it seems that folks are mad at Tip for talking too much about "girls" on this album. Can someone suggest a 'more appropriate' topic? These people must have missed the fact that somewhere around 90% of songs written by all males are about WOMEN. As a man who listens to music, I happen to enjoy listening to songs by artists like Q-Tip who talk about women. Ghostface's 2006 release Fishscale has received ultimately positive reviews, and with good reason. It was one of the best albums in 2006, and further cememted Ghost as the most consistent member in Wu-Tang. I really anticipated this release after The Pretty Toney Album, because I was waiting for Ghost to release another album, and to bring about an album that was better than Pretty Toney.

I'll Admit that it took a couple of listens to truly appreciate this, but now I hold this album in the highest regard. "Enta Da Stage" is probably the most consistent hip-hop album ever made in terms of lyricism, production, attitude, and overall quality. This came out before 36 chambers, illmatic, the infamous, etc.; and in my opinion it is better than all of them. A tall statement, I know; as I hold all of those albums in the highest regard, but this is a lesson in hip-hop and even with all the noticeable clones and copies of it's sound it still cannot be surpassed.
The production is incredible, and the brilliance of it is the simplicity. Almost all of the beats revolve around a drum'n'bass loop, with little mid-range horn and piano samples underplaying the mix. The thing ... Read More:

I peeped this cats as a DJ back in '96 when I was DJ for my College radio Station. I got the full album prior to the 97 relase and i was like, these cats are about to blowup. I had a 2 hr mix show 3 times a week and i made sure they were in rotation. thses cats were before their time, like the pharcyde, Sons of men, and Souls of Mischief. i keep them on my oldschool playlist on my Ipod.
