This is perhaps the most under rated work Rakim has ever done. Yeah, the first few LP's he made with Eric B. are classic, but this honestly deserves the same respect.

Rakim is arguably one of the greatest MCs to bless the mic, and he more than blesses it on this last release he did with Eric B. He covers a wider range of topics than he did on the three albums he did before this (which are absolutely amazing as well.) The topics include; povery, war, education, street life, and of course boastful rhymes about himself (which he deserves to do.) I've been waiting for an album like this for a long time now. I'm surprised there aren't any reviews in for it but I'm happy to be the first. I can't be the only one who's enjoying this record. Everyone seems to be on the Genius's new album Pro Tools. Haven't got that one yet but I'll have it in a few days. Anyway I.A. Dap is simply excellent from start to finish. If you were a fan of Group Home then you should enjoy this album. The overall feel of this album is dark and grimey with a couple of upbeat tracks thrown in. This album should be listened to alone at night to really enjoy and absorb it best. At least turn off all the lights when you bump it. Once in My life (the 90's to be accurate) I listened to nothing but hip-hop. That period is over a long while ago, and lot's of the albums I owned I couldn't listen to ever again! One of the great exceptions is the debut of Wu-Tang Clan, that really holds up well more than ten years later. What I really liked about their music, and still does, is not only their quirky idea of sampling sound-bits from chop-sockey films. It was even more their minimalistic, raw and kinda gritty sound. Most of the tracks were made of only one small sample and a drum beat. And all of the rappers are good, and could deliver some surprising kicking lyric. All wu members have drop classic solo albums and its now time for The W. i didnt find this album to be as bad as some might lead you to believe, but its only because im not looking at past works and im looking to the future. Dont expect to hear the hardcore wu that made them classic. This album is not bad production wise, and the lyrics are memorable at times. Chamber Music gets that album to a good start, was really feelin the beat. Careful (Click, Click) has a very weird flow and can be hard to listen to, but i don't mind it being i don't have another song that sounds like this. I loved the sample on Hollow Bones and i felt they killed it lyrically speaking, but the Oooh ooooh sample ... Read More:

Well to be completely honest I was disapointed with this album. And that's not B.I.G.'s fault. All of his lyrics and verses are on point. It's just the horrible production they chose to go with. None of it fits his style at all. And makes the album pretty boring. They should have stuck with the original beats and production he had recorded the songs with and it would have been a lot better. They really should re-release this with the original beats. . .

And Then There Was X

I agree that this is exactly where X went wrong. It's Dark And Hell Is Hot was a classic. Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood was a great follow up. While this album is not a complete write off it is forgettable just like X's later releases. the problem is that X is still recreating the same album with mixed results. This album does have some good joints though. One More Road To Cross was a pretty vivid story told by DMX over a hard beat. Party Up wasnt a bad second single even though that video was stupid as f***. Make A Move, What's My Name(first single) and D.X.L.(Hard White) are all bangers. D.X.L.(Hard White) feat The Lox and Drag-On is a classic collabo joint where all of them give dope verses. Fame goes in the honorable mention category. These tracks give it some replay value ... this album is definently a lyrical punch in the face.while both of them go together like bread and butter,the show stealer has to go to redman.his lyrics will make you go daaaaammmmmn!!!!but dont get me wrong meth is real dope too and the music production is on point.i listen to this album constantly because it reminds you of what real mcs are and makes you forget about these dance instructor rapppers.
